Thread: Experiment with three different harvesting droids.

I killed 15 (5x3) Bolle Bols from a static spawn, medium-sized not fat and healthy. Results from meat harvesting is as follows:
Me grouped with a droid: 69 - 69 - 70 (different droids for each harvest)
R3 droid with 91 harvesting rating: 73 - 73 - 72
MSE with 30 harvesting rating: 66 - 65 - 66
MSE with 15 harvesting rating: 65 - 64 - 64
Me solo (no droid/pet etc): 70 - 69 - 69
You have to choose between harvesting yourself and letting the droid do it. To sum it up, the R3 outharvests me by a little, but the difference between the MSE with 15 harvesting rating and the R3 with 91 is pretty small. I'll have someone with only novice scout try out a few scenarios tomorrow.
What do you guys think?

I think its pointless unless you're so god awfully lazy to notharvest it yourself. I mean most rangers are using /harvest hide /harvest meat /harvest bone macros anyway. I haven't had a chance to even play since the patch, but if you have to issue a command to make it harvest then i really really don't see the point in having a harvesting droid. Not to mention that if you aren't grouped you harvest alot more. Say i was harvesting pickets solo, i would be getting 90 or so from a medium sized one. Grouped i would be getting 65 or so.... Add to all this the hasle of having to pull a droid before you attack the creature, and have to store when you drive off cuase its slower than hell... Really... what is the point... Now if me and the droid could both harvest then hell yea, but that not the case, nor will likley ever be.

I was the DE asisting with this test. The droid harvesting modules that i made were rated at 15 (of a possible 20).
The first droid was the cheap MSE droid only has 1 socket so got a rating of 15. As he stated no real benefit to a master ranger.
The second droid was an advanced MSE droid with 2 sockets giving a rating of 30. Again as a master ranger no real benefit again.
The final droid was an advanced R2 unit which has the capacity of 6 modules. This gave it a rating of 91 (mods must have been slightly over 15). This unit helped only slightly at master ranger.
The highest possible would be 120 using perfect resources. I am waiting anxiously to see the results from a scout using all 3 droids, the results sos far seem most unenthusiastic

Using a +106 Harvesting Droid I am getting 16.6% increases in yields/ My character only has Harvesting 4 in the scout tree....
IMHO, the amount of time it takes the droid to harvest, which he doesn't always do when given the command, on top of the fact that if he is attacked he will run over 100m away are pretty disappointing.

I think that a 5, 10, 15, or 20% harvest quantity bonus makes it well worth it for when you are really trying to get a good stock of something.
Plus, it allows me to be god awfully lazy, and I like that too.
I do agree that it would be much nicer if the droids moved a little faster to harvest. They sorta poke along like a union worker on lunch break, and you know they can move faster because anytime something decides to attack em' they head for the hills like a bat outta hell.

I just wanted to throw these numbers out here.
I got a +102 harvesting droid, and I only have Hunting 4 (not a ranger, just a scout).
So I know I'll be using a droid from now on

Huurtons on Dantooine:
Hunting 4 - 34 Units of Wooly Hide
102 Droid - 40 Units of Hide
Hunting 4 + 30% Veghash - 42 Units of Hide
102 Droid + 30% Veghash - 47 Units of hide
So I know I'll be using a droid from now on

This is very interesting. I am curious as to whether or not a novice scout will outharvest the droids with low harvest ratings, like I did, and how the numbers look. I will have someone test this tonight when I get off work, using the exact same droids that I did.
I agreethat itall seems a bit of a hassle though. You have to wait to call it, they harvest awfully slow compared to someone using macros and they require a bit of maintenace (batteries and the occasional heal). Personally I don't even use veghash unless I'm harvesting something worth more than 50 cpu, as veghash is expensive and requires you to time your harvests carefully. I'm not sure a 10% harvest increase from a droid is worth it in most cases.
On a lighter side, the droids are awfully cute, puttering around and making happy burbling sounds as they harvest.
