I've recently noticed that I look forward to coffee now whereas in my college days I looked forward to drinking other beverages. I'm 34 and slowing down.

I decided to stop drinking 'for the good of my health' a couple of years back. Well, that and I found it terribly hard to type when I was full of wine... As I was spending more time at the 'puter (both work and play) I found I'd replaced my wine intake with coffee.

Really dumb idea, as it happened. That 'indigestion' feeling I started getting after a few pints of finest Columbian java turned out to be a full on heart complaint. Not the most fun ways to be forced into 'moderation'

pity us bartenders.

we spend all our time professionally sober (it's a virginia law, your results may vary)...

then we play catch-up.

I still grit my teeth when 'heavy drinkers' come along and start making noise.

my tolerance isn't what it used to be, but it's still fierce. my birthday, two years ago, I put down 43 drinks. I know this because I had a Sharpie marker and kept track on my left forearm. since then, I'm less of a monster.

and coffee? bah. what do you think bartenders drink when we're playing monkey-with-a-bottle-and-a-glass. I've managed to beat THAT demon back, but I still enjoy my java-trips more than is healthy.

I was drinking coffee long before I was drinking alcohol. My personal record is 13 cups in 1 1/2 hours. AND, I was asleep by 1 am.

Coffee for Beer huh. Sounds like a liver for a heart to me. Sad thing is you can't do much without either... Oh what is to be human

By caffine alone I set my mind in motion
By the brew of the bean
do thoughts acquire speed
the hands acquire a shake
the shake becomes a warning
By caffine alone I set my mind in motion

I don't know which is most disturbing, that 7-11 sells a 24oz. cofffe, that it sounded like a good deal to me or that I pounded it down in the course of my 15 minute commute.

Somehow, I made it through college without drinking and I still managed to have fun. Usually, it was at the expense of the drunken buffoons. I never could justify spending a lot of money on alchohol that has the potential to make you:

  1. Pee alot.

  2. Be silly.

  3. Forget that your were being silly.

  4. Find ugly women, attractive (ok, this one may have been too low).

  5. Puke.

  6. Get arrested.

I stick with the chemical goodness that is pop .

BTW,I don't drinkcoffee either!

Not a coffee drinker either Calc. Used to work for a coffee place (this was pre-starbucks all over) and had Jamacian Blue Mountain($60 a lb in 1993) now the rest tastes bad. Mountain Dew and Diet Coke take care of all problems.

As for drinking when i was 21-23 I drank so much I wonder how I made it through it. Go to the state store and get a bottle of grain and you know its to much. So for a long while I just stopped maybe a beer here and there and my tolerance went away. Now in the last month i rediscovered beer again and the fact that i dont get hangover headaches. Its all about moderation at this point for me.

Hmmmm.... I am able to do all those things while sober... /ponder

Actually I've had friends refuse to let me drive home because I'm capable of doing things like dance on tables, skinny dip in the local harbor, and attempt to give my three hundred pound friends piggy-back rides while completely sober. It's much easier to lose your inhibitions when you know they won't remember in the morning! But seriously, I don't drink at bars, or at public parties. Past experience has taught me that bad things can happen when you get drunk at bars and don't have a sober friend looking out for you. I prefer to be the sober friend.

That being said:
coffee = so-so, Dr. Pepper is better
beer = ewwwww gross!
pineapple + midori + coconut rum + grenedine = awesome (If you needed any more proof that I'm a girl there's a wussy drink for you)
151 + some pink stuff on a private beach in Puerto Rico with good friends = best thing ever.

Alcohol has its place - preferably a tropical place! For everything else there is soda or tonic water.

Unfortunately I had to switch to coffee when I realized that there was some silly policy against drinking at work. Go figure. After much coffee abuse (freeat work)... and many Tums... I have switched to the goodness of Tea.
