I am a novice ranger and am sure i am not really using my traps effectively. What are the best traps to use and how do they work?

Can a ranger take out a creature JUST with traps? Or do you always need a combat class to finish it off?

In one of the 'tales of elite rangers' there was mention of a gun that shot traps, and traps making creatures attack each other - is this true?

What are your trap use strategies?

Many thanks

Traps alone will not take out creatures. You do need a combat class to take out creatures, preferably a master in a combat class to take out creatures effectively and allow you to kill larger creatures.

No guns (I shudder using that word) shoot traps. However, some droids do, check with your local DE. (Personally I thinkthey are one trick ponies and I won't use them). Some traps can be used to make creature A aggro on creature B, but that is always an iffy proposition. The trap will cause an aggro, and if you are behind the second group of creatures, they may or may not aggro on the trapped creature as it comes through. Always assume not and be ready for combat.

I use traps most of the time hunting. I seldom use Ranger traps, as the adhesive is too cost prohibitive and while the flare and sonic pulse work, they don't fit in my battle plans. The area of effect is nice on Ranger traps, but I like having only one aggro at a time after me, not the crowd.

Be warned, dizzy state from the L darts and sonic does not work on creatures, they are not dizzied. Says they are, but they get right back up after being knocked down.

I mainly use P darts to slow/stop creatures, glowwire to dropthe resists and sharp bone spurs to blind it. You have a slow creature, with less resistance, who can't see to hit you. Good deal in my book. Then making sure I stay out of it's range, I finish off the creature. Even works on Rancors. Does not work on GDK or Krayts. Good luck stick a trap on them.

I don't wear armor much nor do I doc buff. My traps and use of terrain usually give me a big edge in hunting. When the fecal matter hits the fan, I can always P dart and beat feet.
