Thread: ranger?
I've hardly played my main Ranger toon for the past few days, having been spending the holidays touring less visited galaxies and trying other professions out for a laugh.
And I've earned over half a mil while I was gone???
As for 'is there a point to Ranger', well, yes. But it depends what you're hoping to get out of it yourself. To be honest, even if I wasn't making silly monkey just now, and usually I don't cos I'm lazy and not in it for the coin, I'd still be rangering away...
I will elaborate. Rangers hunt, kill animals and harvest the resources. Then they sell those resoucres to crafting professions in exchange for credits. The prices for these resources can vary greatly, from 1cpu to 300+cpu. Hunt lots of quality avian meat and you can happily walk away with a few million after a couple of weeks work.

In PvP we sorta suck. None of our talents directly help us in combat. We do and can do combat related tasks very well.
In PvE we are the bomb. Pick a combat profession, any one. Master it. Know how to use traps, terrain, and the specials that come with your combat profession, and given enough time, you can solo anything in the game.
Money. You have to try to not make money. Like give it away. Often. I can't spend money on "necessities" like clothes or armor. Well, I can, but I don't have to. I have tailors and armorsmiths who owe me favors and give me stuff. About the only things I spend money on are pistols. And spaceships. I kept track. Without trying, without selling my best meat harvested, I made 2 million creds in the past 10 days. Most of that was selling inferior grade meats for 3-10 creds per unit and hides for 5 cpu. It all adds up, when you factor in the mission pay. And I don't gather eggs or milk either. Add a few harvestors in there churning night and day to bring up grind grade stuff and you make a killing. One high end harvestor and one decent wind generator is what I have.
Camo kits are a joke. I can maskscent and not get aggroed, and it's free. I used a camo kit on a jedi padawan today so he could ride around Endor and not get aggroed. I made a ton of xp off him. And just harvesting what he killed will earn me even more creds. Not to mention what he paid me to find stuff for him on Yavin and Endor.
The life of a Ranger is good.
And just being able to play tag with a Rancor is about worth it.

IN COMBAT during pvp you are correct...however my guild relies on my player tracking to find the elusive imp that got away...or to see if we're walking into a trap...... So we are not completely useless in pvp...just somewhat lmao... ![]()
cheers.

My main Character is a M-As, so my Alt is now a Ranger... but the more i play it, the more i REALLY enjoy it. I find that i can solo a lot using traps and stuff.

So what does that mean that I'm not a multi-millionaire?
Actually... I'm only about 1/2 way through the Ranger tree, and people are just beginning to realize that I'm a Ranger.
For me personally... MCHs are my good friends now. I got paid pretty well just for looking for a rare - can't imagine the bonus if we actually found it. I've just begun to start selling mass quantities of meat/hides etc... can't say I wasn't giddy when I finally wasn't "scraping" for a living (not that a Ranger can't handle it, right?)
Although... money isn't why I like the profession. It's just one of the perks.
Rangers are more rare than Jedi. We'll be the profession to watch.
Also, as a side question...
Who knew they were gonna go Ranger from day one? I read about it and just knew...

No worries...
I was trying a little self-depracating humor.
Good Ben Franklin quote too.
Very cool.
Most people don't know that Ben Franklin was the first "Micro-Brewer" in America ![]()

the ranger prof looks very fun for some reason but is there a point to it besides being able to have camo kits so stuff cant see you?
also does it make any money? or is it just a dead end prof like combat medic which is only good for pvp basically?
Perks of Ranger:
Obscene cash making for minimal effort. I cleared 4 mil this morning in two hours while hunting with a friend for loot. My friend is a Novice TK, he got 4mil as well from me, another guy who joined us halfway through got 3mil. That was hunting loot and exceptionally good, but if I harvest (when I need to) I'll almost guarantee to earn between 500k - 1mil an hour if taking good resources.
Example - Dath Carni Spawn - you can easily get 10cpu on this, hunt for a good few hours and you're in themid fivefigures of resource for almost no work and whatever NS/BS you find on your travels.
Ability to upset Jedi. Terrain Negotiation + Burst Run = chasing down a jedi who force running on foot up any gradient. The comedy value is fantastic and the rest isn't bad too. Has lots of uses. Plus crawl races are hilarious.
It's fun. I mean, like - you don't need to grind, you potter about doing your thing and people like you. Everyone loves rangers.
Track can be brutal when it works right.
Camps look cool.
Downsides to ranger (or more appropriately - the things we put up with for being something we love)
- Heavy SP usage. 140 sp's to Master a profession that doesn't add anything really unless you have the right mind set.
- Camps don't do anything other than attract fit women and random people saying "w-t-f is that???"
- Traps work great on lower level stuff - if you're like me and hunt *BIG* game and NPC's, your traps are effectively worthless.
- Jedi and Wannabe Jedi send you stupid tells asking you to chase some random critter that will take hours or minutes to find but you don't know for free, then moan at you because you *walk* and don't swoop around.
- Areatrack can be buggy. Like really buggy.
If you put up with it like us, then you'll love it. It is by far the best profession in the game, even if the Devs see us as - well... no one's sure what the Dev's see us as, even the Devs.
