OK....we'll try this again.
In order to give more weight and import the to the "Master" title, for all professions not just Rangers, perhaps all Elite Professions could have tiered advancement much like JTL. This would in part address the new in flux of Rangers, now that solo-groups have been toned down.
Don't get me wrong, I am ALL IN FAVOR of anyone and everyone entering into any profession and receiving the benefits thereof, but I also believe that all the work that goes into making a Master could be better respected if the 80 - 90% of the earning potential of the Master title could not be assumed by "one tree monkey climbers".
Perhaps basic professions should not be tiered, it is important that people have the opportunity to quickly try out a significant part of may professions, but at the elite level, use the tiering scheme to protect the huge investments that players have made in achieving Master.
Thoughts.

Sorry, I seem to have previously left out the all important "content" part of my post.

I believe that making Master in any profession should grant many more and much more significant abilities than exist now.
Dabblers can get the better parts of many professions. Master have to spend a lot of skill points to get in many cases not a whole lot than a title.
Example, a Master Scout should get well over 100% more than a Novice Scout for harvesting, and 50% more than someone who has just the harvesting tree. Carry that into Ranger and a Master Ranger would be getting 300-400% more than a Novice Scout, which it how is should be. Tracking - add titles and faction to Master Ranger /ar'ing players.
The same would hold true for all professions.
Adding significant benefits at Master would decrease dabblers and stackers to some extent.

I'm still hoping they add a title after master for ONE profession only (once chosen can't be dropped). And that 'epic' mastery would come with a good boost to skills and add some new abilities to profession. Being an 'epic master ranger' would give you then the harvest bonus like JB says, and maybe an improved area track, or a working trap...

I would have to disagree. I feel that they should fix the trees, and make them better over adding the forced tier.
One of the things that keeps me in the game is the ability to mix and match the professions.
Maybe I want to take the Rifle sniping tree, ranger tracking, and TK meditation. i should be able to do that. (do the points exist for that... hmmmmm)
I like the way that most of the combat professions, as well as (dare i say it) the bounty hunter profession, not to mention ranger have all been broken up so that there trees reflect a specific sub skill that represents the whole. do i believe that there should be more bonuses to all 4 trees that make up the "elite" profession absolutly.
But I feel that "dabbling" is one of the worst things that SOE could take away from us. Even with as many problems as the game has. It does seem that the concept and mechanics of the skill tree work out very very well. where and how the skills fall in those trees could probably still use a little work. but call me crazy, but i like the fact that i get frustrated when i think of a character template and think dangit, if i only had 1 more skill point.
That is just my opinion. take it as you will
