Ok I am suffering from a bit of sleep deprivation here. Six a clock in the morning and I have been up all night, so it could be the lack of sleep talking here.
But in another topic on this board it was mentioned that some creatures do not have harvestable bone, and that it might have something to do with them having an exoskeleton.

When I read that the idea of a exoskeleton ranger armour hit me like lightning from a clear blue sky. If Bounty hunters get thair own armour, why not rangers!
It could require special loot peaces that only we could get by killing specific creatures and taking from thair bodies. A bit like RIS armour.

I always thought bone armour looked our of the place, to primitive for Starwars. But an exoskeleton would actuarially be rather high-tech. And a armour that looked like a living exoskeleton would be cool and very unique. It might even be possible for it to automatically change colour depending of what planet you was on, as a special feature...

An exo hat.

no, wait a minute, it made more sense before I wrote it...

Anyhow, I like this idea. It could have TN / harvesting / anti-creature ninja mods built in. But it 's got to look cool, and cool in a proper Star Warsy way, not like it was designed by some 70's artschool escapee.

Whoa...

great idea!

just one quick question, the way armor is right now, different professions are certed for different types of armor, and no one class has a "specific type of armor" that they can use.

I believe mandalorian is assault armor, and would another prof thats certed for assault be able to wear mandalorian?

secondly, how would this affect the other profs certed for battle armor, how would armorsmiths be brought into the deal?

ok... 2 questions, sorry.

Why not just make a Antarian Rangers quest for us where we get there outfit and it has very high mods on it. Mandalorians and jedi are around when they shouldnt be, why not antarian rangers?

Chitin, for those of you who haven't taken a biolgy course lately, is the exoskeleton of many mollusks and mullusk-like creatures- crawfish, lobsters, and crabs among them. Pretty much all anthropods have an exoskeleton, and the main composition/form of this skeleton is called chitin. There is even a creature named chitin for its impermeable skeleton- can be found at the beach and stuff. Good fun to hit with rocks if you get bored.

Bounty hunter armour (what the BH trainers ware) as assault armour as well. But I do not think non-BH's can wear it (or the BH's would properly be complaining loudly).
Mandalorian armour was not BH only armour, it worked for SL and ranger as well. BH armour was found on NPC bounties if memory serves me right, it is a while since I talked to a BH who was trying to get a hole set.

As for how to bring in armoursmiths... well. Why not a give them the schematic. Then we would go out and loot different "Exoskeleton armour segments" from different creatures, (ranger only loot). And bring it to the AS who would make a "Exoskeleton armour core". Then we would go out and other stuff for the decoration, RIS has components, and give that to the Armoursmith as well.

Armoursmiths want to buy our hides, so it would be more then likely that we could find one that would wand to help us create a set of armour. Especially since our armours would not last forever.

Or it could be made a quest schematic, and work like faction armour. We would do some quest, get some one use schematics to give to the armour smith, then the AS would use regular battle armour cores and some special Exo loot to make the final assamply.
If the quests was re-takable as many times as we wanted to it should not provide a problem with getting the armour.

The armour could even be bio-linked like faction armour is, so that once a ranger wor it no other profession could.

And since I am on spiting out ideas here, there should definitely be special parts for the humanoids that do not use human parts, so all rangers could have a complete ser.

The Antarian Rangers was not all "pare military forces" were they? In fact, was the founder not a business man who helped the Jedi with funding problems.
Besides "The Antarian Rangers" would be more rebel on orientation then Imperial right?

There is a armour set in the game called Chitin armour right? But that is assault armour. Besides real world biology seams to have very little to do with Starwars, and even less so with SWG.

Yes, there is chitin in the game, and yes, it is assault armor, but the point of the post is that there already is an "exoskeleton" idea in the armor system. And go to the databank of www.starwars.com and check out some critter descriptions, and you will find that SW creative designers have put a lot more thought into this little imaginay world than one would think.
