A friend of mine just patched the TC for Pub 17. I got the great news about the Kashyyyk camo kits quest, and then he told me that ANYONE can use camo kits in Pub 17. ANYONE.

"Camouflage Kits are now usable by non-Rangers. Any player may now self-apply a camouflage kit to gain a small conceal buff. This buff is less effective than if a Ranger had applied the camouflage, but it should aid crafters in avoiding the unwanted attention of critters near their installations. Also, camouflage kits are now usable from the button bar."

Let's see.

No one's wanted camps in over a year. We have one worthwhile trap, and it's function is done better by two ranged classes. We can't go invisible, but Riflemen and Jedi can. We can harvest, but we're routeinely outharvested on contracts by groups of Novice Scouts who're otherwise combat stacked. We spend more skillpoints than any other class, and the only combat reward we get is the exact same as if we leveled up Carbineer (battle armor hindrance reduction).

The one thing we had left that no one else could do (and do better) was to camo other players.

And they're giving that away?

Please tell me this is wrong. Please. And if it's not, someone tell me when my Ranger can have a vendor, do a headshot, and heal battle fatigue without spending any sk illpoints.

::goes and yanks all the camo kits off my vendor, people can just use up the damn skillpoints like we did::

I'm really thinking it's time to drop it. Tracking is okay, but the only people who want it are Jedi. There's really nothing that sets us apart in any way that isn't masochistic. If I want to make money harvesting, since I can never get in a group that works out and wind up soloing, I'm probably better off stacking combat professions and keeping Novice Scout.

On one hand...this stinks, on the other, since I dropped Ranger with the CU (couldn't keep CH and Ranger and hold a weapon well) Nice that my stash of camo kits won't gather dust.

Still, I would rather see Ranger strong and useful. :
