Hello there. I played galaxies back when it was first released in 2003. I played a ranger CH BH combination. A 4 months after release I decided to put the game on hold because there wasn't enough content, not even mounts, vehicles, or player cities (I thought they released to early). Now a few friends and I have decided to start back up and I re-opened my account, but my characterwas no longer there. So I restarted. Now I am a 2 4 4 4 BH, master marksman, 2 0 2 3 carbineer, and the big problem, 4 3 4 4 scout. I am now CL 56. None of my traps work on any creatures, and I cannot get any trapping experience. Can anyone help me rectify this without surrendering skills? Perhaps havinga ranger make me traps and I could use them? Anything? I miss being a ranger, even if they didn't give a combat bonus, they were explorers and thats what I loved to play.
Oh, P.S.
I am on the Corbantis server.

Are you waiting for combat to end?
You only get the Trapping XP award after the creature has been killed now. It usually gets listed right after the Weapon XP.
You say none of your traps are working? Are you getting a message that the trap didn't work? or are you just not seeing any affects being applied?

It says that they fail, and then I don't get any trapping xp after combat.

What are you trying to trap? If you're trying to root a gorax or something at scout trapping 4, I can see why it's not working. Ranger-built traps won't make you any more successful-- your trapping modifier will still be the same. You'll just be limited in what you can successfully trap as a non-master ranger.

My guess? It's a flaw with the new "Combat Upgrade". It used to be that trap xp was based on the target's level. It is now treated like any other weapon xp. But they didn't change the success rate of traps so you can't hit anything close to your level with traps (meaning you can't get xp).
I don't know how much xp you need to get but here are my recommendations (in the order I would do them):
Respec some skills into the trapping tree (trapping is likely to be your hardest tree to get, although you might also want to do this with the BH Investigation tree). I can't be positive this will work but try /respec to see if it will let you. And there is not all that much time to do this if you can.
Try to find some green cons. Your success rate on green cons is likely to be higher than on what you would normally fight for xp. But I'm guessing you'll still have trouble here.
Trap the stuff near starports. If you don't have too much xp left to go, you might be able to finish up with 1xp per trap (followed by a quick blaster shot to kill it).
Drop some of your combat skills to give you a lower CL to let you trap stuff.
Forget about Ranger.
My guess is that this won't be fixed until it's time for our revamp.
