Thread: An answer to what good are Rangers

I would like to say that my take on Rangers is slightly off the beaten path. Instead of being a multi-talented forest ranger, ready to save Smokey Bear and lecture about litter, I see myself more in the scout/shooter mode. You know, not Rambo, but the quiet professional who gets the job done.

With a rather large group last nite, in an urban setting (OK, we were raiding), I went in first, still covert. I scoped out the starports and shuttleports, then reported back to the main group where it was safe to come in. I maintained security until the group had mainly arrived, then went off in search of our targets. Again, who looks at Rangers?? Once I found the target, I again reported size, strength, weapons, pets... yanno, those years in the army did help. One simple soul actually said "Oh, he is just a Ranger, what can he do??".

Once the battle had been joined (or more honestly, the giant cluster had started) I used my meager medical skills here and there, even used rescue a few times and shot the living snot outta a few of the evil PA whose name will not be mentioned, tho I just used 2 letters of the 3 in the name. Seems I have found a use for rescue... and while you draw some fire, you do get to fire back, and for a lowly measly Ranger, I am a pistoleer/marksman/artisan who makes some kick butt power ups. Shoulda seen the look of surprise when "Forest Ranger boy" unleased some hits on the big bad master marksman and he not only started bleeding, he started running (snicker snicker tee hee hee).

Was this a true use of my Ranger skills, yup. Did I support my group, yup, Was it fun, oh heck yeah. Did I later on set up a camp for healing, story swapping, teaching, yeah. Did I make any faction points... my only complaint, not a one, as I stayed covert. Oh well, back to my hit and run tactics on "those other guys" out there sitting in camps, or as I like to call em, mobile ATMs.

Something for all you tree huggers to consider.
