Thread: Area Track 4 Worth Giving Up Novice Medic For? Wayfaring 1 worth getting?

Since I'm a 1/4/4/4 BH, I've asked this question in the BH forum. But I think a Ranger could answer it better.

I'm also a 0//0/3/4 Ranger and I'm about to get Area Track 4 to be able to Man Hunt. To me, this seems like the perfect compliment to a Bounty Hunter. But to keep it as I climb toward MBH, I'd have to drop Novice Medic. I'd have just enough skill points to get Wayfaring 1, too, if it's worth it.

I like Ranger skills and tracking in particular. But my fellow BH brethern have mostly advised me to ditch Ranger skills and get more gun skills in either Carbineer or Pistoleer.

But my gut tells me BH itself already has enough gun skills to get the job done. What good are gun skills if you can't find your targets quickly? Since BHs have no defenses, we have to kill quickly or we are gonna get killed ourselves. And I think Raph Koster recommends that BHs get Ranger skills, too.

So, if you don't mind answering a question of a Ranger dabbler, is Area Track 4 worth it? And can my High-Quality camps heal me quick enough so that I won't miss having Novice Medic?

Thanks in advance for you advice.

Really quick & briefreplies, IMO (But bear in mind I know nothing about BH's)

/area track 4 is exactly what you need to get that final homming in on the target. I'm no BH but I use it to locate mates or my group if I become "lost". I dont often cry for the groups WP literally because of this skill.

I can think of no benefit in your having anyother Ranger skills, or anything other than the Scout camps (anybody else..?). I'm a Master Ranger, I just cant help it, but common sence would have me ditch the camping line and get some better medical skills and a little medical droid, which would be fare more effecient for self healing than the nice looking but quite useless HTFB camp. But like I say I'm a MR, you aint, let common sense rule?

So, if you don't mind answering a question of a Ranger dabbler

...when the question is put with the respect that yours was, never, ask away all you like matey, all in here will help, always.....

Really appreciate that answer Marcus. My heart and head is telling me to get and keep Area Track 4. When I see a red-dot player speeding quickly toward me to kill me, I bet he's using the Man Hunt skill to find me.

But, I will have only 7 extra skill points left over after MBH if I keep Area Track 4. I cannot keep Novice Medic as you suggest I should.

Still, I know if I sit in a camp long enough, everything but my battle fatigue will be healed. Do High Quality camps heal you quicker than basic camps do? I remember sitting in one of those for a half-hour one time before I got healed.

I "think" the healing stats are on the Ranger FAQ - its slow though, I can tell you that much. Time Zones being what they are will provide you with more informed answers than mine a bit later today, check back to this thread then.

A camps healing properties is no substitute for healing skills, but like you say in the absence of Medic its better than nothing.

You could just buy a 110 rated medical droid and just pull him out - as I understand it you get the effectiveness of a hospital for healing with one of those out.

Yes the higher camps heal wounds faster, from the basic rating of .65 up until the HTFB heal rating of 1 (same as an in-town medical centre). However that can be easily replaced with a basic scout camp and a good medical droid. A med droid with a 110 med mod heals at 1.1 which is slightly above the HTFB and medical centre, add a crafting mod into the droid and the basic scout camp becomes better than a Ranger HTFB. Put all that into a probot and your basic camp even has a chuba deterent system, way more than the HTFB has

If you need to find something to spend those last few points on then get Wayfaring I. Then you can make camo kits for Corellia, Naboo, and Tatooine which will allow you to hide from your marks on those planets (or hide from other agro NPC's on the way to your mark). Enjoy this one quickly though as they're taking that skill away from us in a few weeks, if they haven't already.

Believe it or not, I've never used Droids. This is such great advice. Didn't that answer from my "shoot first, ask questions later" BH brothers.

Think I'll get Wayfaring 1, too. Thanks guys!

Well, you're not able to hunt jedi yet if I read your original post correctly (I'm having some strange scrolling problems in IE right now that won't let me re-read it) so man hunting would only be useful to you if you're involved in the GCW, in my opinion. I too am a BH/Ranger/Medic/Pistoleer. I've only taken the tracking line to be more effective at harvesting with an eye towards making a living off selling those resources. With my BH/Pistoleer skills I am able to drop some pretty tough critters to get the big harvests. But I digress. I think man hunting isn't too useful currently...only time I've used it was to find someone to help me take out a pack of 5 ravenous tortons that wouldn't let me get off the ground. If I were you I'd keepthe medic skills.
