I have a big problem when doing lvl 4 tracking I go the wrong way! I get east and west mixed up.

How about when we track we can double click on the name and a WP is drawn out for us for the current location like when you type /find trainer:scout in a city

Funny, I've always wanted this. Something kinda like the Tracking feature in EQ(except there it tells you where to go instead). I think the whole Tracking notification in this game blows. Part of Tracking is actually being able to find the tracked, not guess.

TRACKING WAYPOINTS ARE FOR MORONS.

There, I said it again. This must be the 50th flame on this idea.

Never Eat Soggy Weenies (North, East, South, West) there, now you have no reason to mix up east and west.

Waypoints would detract from the skill, yes skill, of finding creatures or people. If you do not have this skill, work on it. No free rides, no waypoints.

Next you will want a protocol droid to lead you by the hand to the target.

Besides, targets move. How are you going to waypoint a moving creature??

You are not this first to be flamed for this idea, nothing personal but it is not keeping with the Ranger skill.

BHs on the other hand, need waypoints to find their snitches.

Is it really necessary to "flame" anyone, even if it is something that's been brought up for the umpteenth time? Patience, they say, is a virtue, and one especially suited to the Ranger. Be patient with those who don't know any better.. And patient with those who disagree with you, all the same. They say that respect, the lack of pointless argument and the sense of community are all hallmarks of this forum.. Let's keep it that way, shall we? The thread will quickly drop to the bottom if no one really responds to it, but if you start a flamewar by implying, or directly stating, that someone is a moron, perhaps it's the one the Devs will be reading on the chance occasion that they decide to read our forum. Negativity helps nothing.

That said, I agree with you in principle. While I've often figured that having a waypoint would be easier, it's not a difficult thing to look at the direction, the distance, run in that direction, and estimate when to stop and track again. It also seems a bit more.. realistic, shall we say. Tracking is a constant progress, where the Ranger has to continuously look for the signs of the quarry. The thing that would be nice would be the ability to actually track people and things which are moving... Even if you're on foot, tracking someone constantly on the move will eventually fail because you have to stop every so often to track, so they'll eventually leave your area of tracking. If they're burst-running, or have a mount or vehicle, on the other hand, you'll probably never find them again.

It is true something needs to be done to make this skill useful, but a waypoint will not fix the inherent flaws.

I agree with both sides. Waypoints may be a little extreme. But something like EQ's Track would be better IN MY OPINION. Something along the lines of when you track, you get periodic updates of which direction at least the creature is now traveling. It's about the same as stopping every so many meters and hitting Track again, but without the hassle of actually having to stop. But both arguments are good and have their valid reasons behind it.

Personally, I'd prefer that /areatrack not give waypoints, and that /track (when it is finally implemented) would give a waypoint to the lair that it spawns.

Actually, I'd like to see both /areatrack and /track implemented exactly as they are described inthe Outdoorsman proposal, but thats a topic for a different thread I think.
