im just now starting in this profession but this is the main reason that I can see. Rangers main cash supply is harvesting various critters.
Grouping allows us to harvest quite a lot of materials.
Building camps is a reason to have a Ranger in the group.
Other reason is Rangers don't have that many things that others can't do... and you are asking about taking away one of those things.

Its like a Master CH willing to leta dabbler be just as effective as he is using pets. The point is we want to be more enticing to groups not somebody you go to before you and your group leave to pick up some supplies.
There isn't much point in being called a frontiersman if all we would be in that tree is a camp salesman.
what I am saying is I would rather be your guide through the wilderness, not your hunting vendor, if so I would be a weaponsmith and make you your weapons to kill things.

My main source of income is running destroy missions, harvesting the critters and then selling the harvest.
I don't think I have ever sold a camp, given some away sure, but not sold any.
It's just like with the medics. Spend 15 skill points and you can use stims.]
We earned the privilege of using great big honking camps, so why should we give it away?

I dont want Rangers to be turned into an intergalactic R.E.I. or Eddie Bauer.
The fact that scouts have worked so hard to get survival experience and then rangers too, we feel slighted that what has made us useful (not yet special) but useful is our camps and what they do for the group.
If that is taken away from us, then we will merely be replaced by the big guns. Already, I have been denied entrance in a group because rangers have no innate usefullness to a group.
When I tell them that I am a TKA, then they accept me. Rangers have no group usefullness (although scouts do) therefore, just take a bounty hunter, theyve got master scout, and bigger guns than we do.
I love being a ranger, but we still need to be more than scouts and we cannot let our usefullness be taken away.

So let me get this straight, most rangers DO NOT want other players to be able to set up there camps? If that's so why? Couldn't others using the camps only help the profession? I mean they can't get one unless a Ranger makes them one and if they want one, well isn't that just another source of income, Rangers don't seem to have many, maybe just traps also? Maybe I wasn't reading the post right, correct me if I'm wrong. I think everyone should be able to buy and set up a pre-made camp, but that's just me.

Hmmm, the "not wanted to be left behind" makes a lot of sense as well as having the same skilled during usage. I don't really see how the dabblers fits because a ranger that just dabbles in the frontiering tier will have the ability to use the camps, which is fine, but as far as skilled usage which is a valid point, maybe there should be a decent modifier if a ranger is in the camp, plus cripple the current healing modifier for not having a ranger there. And as for not being left behind, just make rangers more useful; better areatrack for hunting, better camouflage and maskscent for groups, there are plenty of reasons to want a ranger in the group other than camps, although camps are the most well known. Just yesterday I had someone stop me to point them in the direction of some peko-pekos, which of course I couldn't under the current system since none were close, but that's another discussion. I just though that it couldn't hurt to add another way to generate credits other than missions and in the end if Rangers in general were against it well... they just don't have to sell them, that would be the easiest way to see if it was a good thing. Either way it doesn't bother me because when I want credits without running missions I just sell harvested resources, but I'm sure as you all know, you can just be a scout to do that.
