I think it would be fun if rangers could identify a lair type just by hovering their cursor over it (bark mite lair) as they run along, and if you could see the lairs further away than the critters that spawn from it. This would allow rangers to negotiate dangerous terain faster and make them more valuable to groups.
Right now if you have a mission you can see thelair description when you hover over it, so it must be possible to code this (I think the tag for mission lairs should be removed for non-rangers as well - maybe just suround the lair in mist so other players will know it's a mission).

There's a problem here (which doesn't mean it's not a good idea)
If Rangers could see the "type" of lair, we'd have no way of differentating between mission lairs and natural lairs. There are several key differences, namely that if you steal somebody's mission, they might get pissed. Also, naturaly lairs spawn in different amounts and often contain a boss. Mission lairs do not usually have boses (don't think I've ever seen a mission lair with one, at any rate)
This becomes a problem on Dath, where everyone is running 40k missions. If all you saw was "an enraged Rancor lair" you'd have no idea whether to attack it or let it be. Perhaps a different idea would be when you click on it and use /examine, you'd get the type of lair in that box. That way you could check "a dead log" and determine what type of lair it was from far away, without having to try to guess if it was somebody's mission.

Prehaps examining the lair would say what variation or creature type inhabbits it.

Drawn out but when you "search lair" what you get, upon examining, does not just show a picture, but which animal its from?
Edit: Lol of course a quick tap and you'd find out a whole lot quicker
