Just my opinion here..
Supposedly Camo is stronger. Supposedly, it works on NPC's even though it's not meant to.
But, I stick to mask scent. Camo lasts much longer than mask scent, but it always seems to break too often for me. Some swear by camo, but I find it less of a hassle to just use mask scent.

Actually this thread/query is a timely one for me...
Being a relatively new Novice Ranger, I obtained the Conceal skill a short while ago and eagerly made up a Tatooine Camo Kit. I tried it out, timing things and sticking to my usually hunting spots. I must say I was a tad disappointed.
Firstly it appeared that it actually lasted LESS time than maskscent. I tried both a couple of times and maskscent lasted longer than conceal. I'm sorry, but I timed them both and that's how it was.
Secondly, it seemed to have roughly the same level of success as maskscent.
Yes, there was the benefit that I could apply it to another person. But with everything else considered, the need to make up a camo kit means I am sticking to maskscent. Maybe on 'higher level' planets it might change around?
I was also a tad disappointed there are on graphical effects. I was expecting to see my face smeared with camo gear, but nothing

Firstly it appeared that it actually lasted LESS time than maskscent.
It did. The length it lasts is based on your skill. As a new Ranger, its duration will be shorter than your full-strength maskscent. Once your skill is higher it will outlast mask, if it isn't broken.
Secondly, it seemed to have roughly the same level of success as maskscent.
Again, your skill is less, so it won't be as effective. That said, even at a master supposedly maskscent caps at 95% while conceal caps at 98%.

Of course, I guess I should have put on the "game mechanics" hat and put a bit of thought into that one prior to posting...
Thanks for the clarificationSeiryuu. That makes perfect sense. Still disappointed about the lack of camo effect though

From what i read in the skill tree, it is supposed to work on NPC'humanoid's and animals alike.
And yes, if you check your skil mods, you have like 40 camo as a new ranger while your mask scent is 100. At first i was skeptical of camo, until i noticed the mods 40 vs 100, and went hog wild on bio clothing ventors. Currently my base camo is still 40, after + camo clothing, its up to about 86 now. ( i never wear armor anyway). Camo lasts a good while for me, and it does eliminate some of the threat of pesky argo humanoid npc's with blasters. (IE, i don't get npcs taking pot shots at me when going from point A to point B with camo up on my speeder for instance.)

So is it fair to say there is no clear, definite answer to this? I hear a variety of things, especially when you figure in that stuff in this game is often broken and it's only by experience that we figure it out.

Hmm...unless you have +camo CA/AAs totaling +21 (on different armor/clothing pieces), you should be at 40 (base) + 25 (capped be mods) = 65, right?

Like many of the posters have already stated, conceal is based on Ranger level.....As a master Ranger myself, and with +25 Conceal bio-clothes, I rarely get "popped". I have been hunting Dath of late, bigger harvests
, and have not been uncovered once. I think its just really good luck myself.
I rarely use Mask Scent anymore, and the only time I do use it, is when I am only going to be in a certain area for a moment, or I am in a camp training a critter and conceal wears off and I don't want to "waste" another conceal just yet.
I recommend getting some Mask Scent/Conceal Bio clothes as they seem to help tremendously.

*edited to add*
I think I have a +10 to conceal for being a Bothan, so I may have better results intentionally. /shrug
I had forgot about it actually

Nope, it was 40 / 86 camo mod. I remember looking at it and thinking.. "hey, its nearing my masked scent skill now... cool!"
I'm wearing +15 or +16 pants, shirt, and jacket. RIght now i am SERIOUSLY addicted to Bio wear.
Now about camo itself, yes it takes more work to get it going (ie makign the kits), but i think its well worth it. Lets put it this way, i find myself split between tracking and wayfayring.. i mean i seriously can't weigh in for myself which i should prioritize.
With the camo kits for the varying planets, it gives me an edge in hunting. Yet what i do is hunt and harvest. So its really hard for me to decide. Now, i'm a full time harvester, and when i find myself considering NOT upping the skill that increases my harvest output.. that says something about the signficance of camo.

I know that the char display is showing the sum total of all be clothing camo mods you have, but the sad truth is, you the benefit you actually get is capped at +25.
Please check the tailor faq given below. There is mcuh additional info there but the relevant section is:

First before I forget, make sure to make camo kits anyhow. No matter how long they last, tehy will fetch you some scouting xp, helps in the long run, hit a planet you can make a kit for, and get in a solo group, and dab it on people coming in and out of the outpost your in.
As for which I use? It largely depends on the planet for me it seems. On endor, /maskscent almost never breaks. Don't fix it if it's not broken right?
On Dathomir, It seems /camo works better for me, so Iusually go with that, when I am on my feet and running with some pals. IF I am on my speeder or mount I will just /mask till i get where I am going though. So I guess I rely more on /mask overall. Excepting dath (master ranger required for camo kit) like on Dantooine, I'll offer to other rangers if in group if they want to /camo me...for that scouting xp

Just posting to confirm what Beri is saying. You are capped at +25 even though the display lists higher.
You can confirm this rather easily with camoflauge. Make a kit using a specialized general tool at a public or private crafting station. You will only have six experimentation points.
(I helped confirm this cap and how the Bothan bonuses figured into skills a loooong time ago when we were having this same discussion by testing with experimentation.)
