Haha, its a different problem then you are thinking. Let me expand on that.
I'm actually surprised you were able to get your traps to work on those pets at all. In case you don't know, our traps don't work, and won't even throw, at Player CH pets. They are not valid targets. No matter how much we rangers argue that is the best roll in PvP for scout/ranger to be the anti CH, it doesn't happen.
So like I said, I'm surprised you able to even throw traps and have them effective on those huurtons. Now the question is this. Will the devs consider it a bug and you shouldn't have been able to do that? Or will they consider it a bug that it should have been working fine and getting you agroed etc? Hmmmmm currious how that turns out.

Actually, Imps have missions in which the targets are NPC Creature Handlers and their NPC pets (think of a Rebel version of the tusk cat riders that reside on Naboo). So they should be trappable as they are really just animals.

Scenario: I took an imperial mission against a rebel creature handler camp. I got to the waypoint and found two tamed huurtons and one reb creature handler. I am a covert imp.
I chucked several traps at one of the huurtons. I go with my standard pattern of phae, stink, stun, blind, phea, glow-wire. (yeah, it takes a lot of action, but hey, I need the trapping XP, and I could kill these guys while afk).
Problem: The faction pet doesn't respond, It doesn't aggro me. In fact, despite the combat music, through the use of about 12 bone spikes I get it's mind pool down to like 1 (b/c this trap can't kill). Still no aggro from the beastie nor from the handler. I think I've even gotten a TEF at this point, IIRC. I was even able to rinse and repeat this problem a couple times, just to see.
Question: Is this a known issue? I sent in a CSR ticket, though it'll get lost in the shuffle of the rightly more important problems of sorting out dupers from innocent victims.
Just wanted to bring this to your attention and find out what the deal was.

I have been in PvP, thus overt, and went against overt Imps who were CH. I targeted the pets, and tried to throw a trap. It told me "invalid target" just like if you targetted a player or NPC and tried to throw a trap. I could attack the pet with my weapons, but couldn't throw traps. Mind you this was way back at like 6 months after launch, but I have not heard of this changing.
IMHO in the above situation, I should be able to trap the creature. If it can attack me, and I can attack it, then I should be able to throw traps. Period.

Pretty much all rangers agree with you Squidwalker. But again, I think it simply enters a coding complication in that pets of PCs are given player rights in what is, and is not allowed. Unfortunetely the only 'not allowed' i can think of for other pc's and their skills is...trapping lol.

Stretch for me but i think:
Its coding. A player CH pet is white normally, accepted in case of a duel or GCW overt, in which the pc pet is given the same rights as the player, in regard to trapping and such. However a npc CH pet is always yellow, (again unless GCW plays a part, and that only if the same side and the animal goes white and earns the player status) therefore it acts much like a regular animal coding wise. This plays into the same policy as with domesticated animals, i.e. a Gungan Fambaa.
I think it was a glitch (I have had npc's not move or react when fighting before, but rare), or worse, perahps yes, a bug.
(Don''t bash me too much if I am way off base, like I said, a stretch :smileywink
