Hi all,
I can make a schematic to make traps and camps. But what then? Do I need to buy a factory or buy time for a production run from an artisan?
Perhaps there's a page some of you found useful where I can read this up?

Get a factory and use a weapons crafting tool and stand near a weapons crafting station to make a manufacturing schematic.
The max its per crate is 25.

Thanks Owen. Where would I buy a factory? Can you suggest a guide price? Can I carry it about or do I need to drop it somewhere?

Not sure on what a good price is, it depends on your server really, but get them from Architects.

Shortest version: Weapon and Droid crafting tool + bulk resources + factory = your crates.
Short version: Use a W&D crafting tool to make a schematic near a Weapon, Droid and Generic crafting station, and then use an Equipment Factory to make the crates. The factory's options are pretty self-explanatory; just plug in your schematic, drop in the ingredients, and go have some fun while it cooks. (Note: On Eclipse, those factories run 40-55k.)
How to make a schematic: (You already know this, but someone else might not) Use a Weapon and Droid crafting tool near a WD&G crafting station. Generic Crafting Tools will NOT work. You'll get a new pop up box once you're told whether or not you suceeded; just pick "Make Schematic" and it'll drop it into your datapad (same area your swoop and droids are in). Just leave the quantity at 1,000.
REALLY IMPORTANT NOTE: Whatever you put into the factory has to be the SAME THING you used to make the schematic. You can't mix and match, the schematic looks for one specific resource per slot, and that type only. Plan to get some small bulk resources for your factory run.
Factory Costs: Not much! On my server (Eclipse), the factories run 40-55k. Maintenance is very small, and it uses power *only* when it's actually making things, which is nice.
Incidentally, here's some numbers for you:
To do a factory run of Field Bases, you need the following:
- 1000 identical hide per crate
- 625 identical bone per crate
- 500 identical metal per crate
I think they take about 100 seconds per tent to cook for the Field Bases, so give the factory 40-45 minutes per crate, give or take. (You can get crates out while it's working by clicking on Options. Literally clicking on that part, you don't need to stop the factory.)
High Tech Field Bases are 114 or 124 seconds I think (server's down, I'm going from memory) and take the following:
- 1250 identical hide per crate
- 875 identical bone per crate
- 750 identical metal per crate
And yes... I actually had those already written down. I wrote them down (again) this morning as I was prepping for my own factory runs!

depending on the economy of your server, I would expect the average price of an equipment factory to be about 40 - 50k credits.
If you are going to be making a lot of crates of traps and field bases for sale, then it migh tbe worth the investment, otherwise, find a friendly master artisan and try and hire a session in their factory - probably costing around 100 credits per hour (at arough guess)for the factory owner, so expect a markup on that.

Great replies - before I decide to buy or rent, are factories fixed? Going to a particular planet just to make stuff would be hassle.

nope - they are a deedable item like a house, so there is a cost associated with picking them back up (redeeding), and you can place them anywhere you like (terrain permitting) outside a city, and inside a city with zoning rights.
