Thread: Effect of Lunar Cycle on harvest yields

Ive noticed that on long harvest runs that span several days that my harvest yields will fluctuate by as much as 10% or so. this is for the same types of creatures (i.e. fat&healthy) from same types of lairs(i.e. mission, natural, invisible). My own theory is that harvest rates wax & wane with the lunar cycle but i havent quite figured it out. Any thoughts?

it's depending on the area you harvest in and seems to change daily, at a start of a hunting session I usually first try to find an area with a higher harvest yield for fat & healthy creatures and try to stay there as good as possible.

Well as the jedi devs taught us organics harvest are much like artisan harvests. Their stupid tool would lead you to an area that was a high percentage of say Carnivore Meat and would pull more because of it. Since seeing the reports on that tool i have seen it in action. If im hunting a certain thing say Dant Herbivore Meat that if i stay in the same area i always get the same amounts. Where if i move it changes.

So no its not lunar its shifting like metal and flora

There is an "undisclosed" map of the land generated just like what the miners get. It's greatly attenuated, the min/max is far less but it is there. The outwardly indicator you wil get is the "skinny/healthy" bit when you harvest.

if you're running missions, keep track of how much you harvest in what direction and how far out. Then when you've figured out the ideal ranger and direction, look for missions in that area. This will help maximize your harvest yields.

But man, wouldn't some sort of survey tool / ability be a nice addition to the ranger tree (of course, they'd probably stick it in the tracking line), but just to be able to do a command like /surveycritters and get a message like "you take a quick gander at all the critters in the area and they seem to be thinner than normal..." would be really helpful.

The Organic Survey Device from the FS quests would have done this.

The problem with it was that it also let someone sample all the materials it could locate. If they could have restricted it from sampling animal resources, it would have been an awesome tool.

yep - that's exactly what I had in mind - just without the ability to actually get resources. We can only hope....

I dont know. I dont want hunting creatures to become a case of finding where 95% of domestic meat is. Personally it seems odd that its handled this way

Which quest is that, anyway? Is it in the Surveying line or another? (I know that seems like a dumb question, but this IS the same company that, well, +5 camping, need I say more?)

The tool went away.

LOL

i had this horrendous idea of us being able to examine creature droppings to tell how good of a harvest you'd get..........

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Maybe they're trying to duplicate how in nature the same kind of animal can find different nutrients in different areas, and that's how different packs of the same kind of animal in different regions have different nutrition levels (fatter/healther vs skinnier/weaker).

Don't know, just trying to explain this odd occurance hehe.

Sort of makes sense to me - there are parts of the planets where things are healthier and this is measured as a numeric value. Just as, say, the squirrels in my backyard are thin and unhealthy (ie 15%) as opposed to those in the forest (75%). I mean aren't we already doing this now -- just the tool would help quantify this.

Well, maybe you're right hunting is sort of cool right now because it isn't as quantifiable as harvesting minerals and things, but if all we're doing is keeping track of numerical values in our heads, why not have a tool to help us do this. The operative societal model (at least when it comes to creature resources) in swg might be hunter/gatherer, but who says we can't get some technolgy to help us out.
