Thread: Odd thought...might fishing heal BF?

Just a thought. I'm not a ranger nor does my character fish, but in RL I do. Would it be out of line to think that fishing, relaxing as it most often is, heal BF? I know that when I'm fishing, I'm very relaxed and it's a way for me to take myself out of the RL to "heal"...sort of a "mental health day"

It sure would be neat to see if this might considered for those waaaay out in the boonies that can't make it back to a cantina in a timely manner or those that tend to solo. To keep things balanced, allow fishing to heal at a much slower rate than if he/she were to go to a cantina. How about at a 25%?

Any comments?

Nice idea, but it would potentially really hurt the entertainer based professions. If something like this were implemented, I'd have to say it would have to be a Master Ranger only skill.

I think most rangers would like to see some way of healing BF in order to stay out in the field longer, but I think the Dev's are set on keeping BF healing a unique feature of the Entertainer professions. I can see the justification for that. I think the main concern of the Rangers, regarding BF healing, is for a camp setup that allows entertainers to heal BF.

I like the fishing idea though, but if something like that were to be implemented, then TKA's would would want the same feature to be implemented on their Meditation line (because isn't that relaxing as well?), and then every other profession would want it in some form or another, and then entertainers would be pissed because they'd be homeless and out of work.

Maybe so, but that's why I thought to make the healing rate pretty low...maybe 10% of the entertainers rate...just enough to make it more convenient to run into town vs staying in the country. I also think this should be a low level skill as ANYONE can fish.... Then again, maybe the heal rate should be even less than 10% if everyone could do it.

Also, can't we all heal BF in a camp if there's an entertainer present? I honestlydon't know as I've never been in a camp with an entertainer.

And maybe the TKA should be able to heal BF if they meditate...again at a very low rate.

I just don't want to take anything away from the entertainers either, but it just seems kind of logical

Great idea dude. Brilliant! You have nailed 2 birds with one stone. Not only do we have another choice besides going to the city and wasting time staring at fat dancers, you address the problem the Devs are struggling with, and that is to make fishing worth something.

I like it. I hate relying on other players. That totally goes against the Ranger mentality. This game is going to need something when most of the entertainers realize that their profession is boring as Hoth.

Oh, and about taking away from entertainers. I can see that happening a little and I think the idea of making it a Scout or Ranger skill is a good one as well. I don't hear medics and doctors complaining that we can heal wounds without their help, so I think Entertainers can live with it as well.

I'm not refuting that your idea is logical by any means. I'm just merely stating what the consensus of the Dev team would be regarding this issue. The only reason I brought it up is because TKA's, and whatnot, have made the exact same suggestion (regarding having a fractional healing rate of their BF) in the past. However, I think it's pretty much a given that most people would rather fish/meditate/etc. to heal BF at a substantially lower rate, than go back into town and get that healed at a cantina. I would. However, the point is merely that healing BF is a unique quality of the entertainer profession; it's their primary purpose in the game. it would create imbalance, because this game has been developed in order to have each character rely on others in order to thrive.

Falkyrk,

You made a very good point. Medics and doctors don't complain about everyone being able to heal themselves. I had to sit and contemplate that for a moment. There are two ways that this situation can be looked at:

1)

In order to heal your own damage/wounds you need one of two things, either skill in the Medic profession or a stim pack. Both of these are tied directly to the medic profession. stim packs, and whatnot, are crafted by characters trained as medics (thus rendering a steady flow of income), and obviously if you are trained as medic than it's irrational for a doctor to get upset with you for being able to heal your own wounds/damage.

Doctors and combat medics are extremely useful in combat situations, because they can heal a significant amount of damage and wounds. An enormous amount more than an untrained medic can.

Plus doctors and medics can heal other kinds of unique wounds like str, con, etc. That can't be healed by an untrained medic.

2)

TKA's can heal their own wounds through high levels in the meditation line. While this is a powerful abillity it's kind of "exploit-resistant" because it requires a ton of unarmed combat experience in order to achieve (it doesn't have a unique type of XP awarded for it). In fact, it's always the last tree persued by TKA's going for master. This deters individuals from persuing this single tree of TKA in order to gain this abillity.

But while this heals wounds, stim packs are still an everyday item for TKA's when healing damage. It's faster and more efficient. So medics are still getting money for stims, unless the TKA's are trained as a medic and can craft their own meds.

There is no comparable skill related to entertainers. They can't boost heal 700 points mind wounds or heal all you're BF in one shot like what doctors can do for Health and Action. A lot of people with significant BF or mind wounds will go AFK in a cantina anyway, and if that skill is granted to people in the field, they'll just do the same thing.

If BF is going to be healed away from the cantina it needs to be implemented in a way where Entertainers are involved, it shouldn't be awared to non-entertainment professions. One of the other threads on Ranger suggestions, gave the idea of having entertainers being able to heal BF in a special kind of ranger camp, and I fully support that suggestion.

I have 2 thoughts on this... relating to the fact that we rangers seem to be meant to be useful both solo and in large goups and we are NOT city folk.

1. A Ranger (or master scout for that matter) MUST be able to get relaxed and self-heal battle fatigue in a camp and or fishing without an entertainer. This is only logical given our choice in life... cities INCREASE our battle fatigue, not decrease it... I want to get BF by standing in front of a general crafting station or waiting for a *edit* shuttle and the only place in a city I don't get battle fatigue is in a cantina or hotel, and even then in a cantina I don't heal as fast as an architect and if I'm not listening/watching I get a small BF drain on me. This could go one step further and master scouts get 1BF point healed while in the field every 10 minutes without a camp. If I have invested this many skillpoints in Master Scout/Ranger, then why not... it's not like the architect is going to become master scout just so he can setup camp and heal BF.

2. Non-Master scout and higher do not get the ability to have their BF healed in a camp UNLESS there is an entertainer (high-level camps only, of course), which supports grouping and social interaction outside of the cities and the only real reason to setup that super-cool HTFB for a group with a master doctor and droid besides to pull out the pets

If I never had to go toa city again in my galaxy I'd be a happy ranger.

If fishing could cure BF I'd probably fish a lot more. It is a nice, relaxing past time.

BF seems to exist only to give entertainers a job really. There are plausible ways people can relax without having to watch some twi'leks dance.

What would be great is if they could allow BF to be healed by dancers in high-scale camps. Then entertainers would be more valuable in combat parties.

In my experience, fishing would actually give me BF. Boring and then all of a sudden you have something trying to tear your rod out of your hands. Reel it in and you get bit, likely as not. And let's not forget acky bait like bloodworms or gone-over squid. Blech. No thank you.

I was kinda referring to the fact that camps heal wounds.

Xenothaulus, Nice Tull quote . The devs are taking away our monkeys though (check the dev response to Scouts).

VERY cool idea for fishing and BF. Might want to make it slow though, or they won't buy it (they like the cantina being the only place for that).
