Thread: Going into business as a flora broker, your input requested

With the introduction of the new camo kits, I've been seeing a lot of Rangers upset at the fact that they have to take artisan skills to survey and harvest flora resources, since they are rarely found on the bazaar. Well, I've decided to start gathering the wheat/wood/fruit/etc and putting them up for sale for you all. I'll be starting with Rori and Naboo (since that's where I'm currently located), but I'll try to make it to the other planets over the next week or so. I'm also going to put a suggestion up on the chef board for others to do the same.

One thing I'd like to know is what stat is most important for the kits. It sounds like the experimentation only effects the number of charges, but is this based solely on OQ? Second, what stack size would be most convenient for you? For resources, I usually do 1k stacks for 3k credits, since I do all my sales on the bazaar. This hits a nice balance between the 3k maximum sale price and the 25 maximum items for sale. But if this looks like overkill (especially if the only Domestic Wheat available has low OQ), I could put up smaller stacks. I may also charge a bit more for the non-started planets to cover travel expenses.

So how does this sound? Any ranger on the Chilastra server can send me a /tell or email for order requests, and I'll try to get them handled as quickly as possible. The resources will be up for sale on the bazaar of the planet they were found on to keep finding them simpler.

OQ is the only stat that matters. You are correct, OQ has a direct effect to the amount of charges we get per kit. With great stats I was able to make a Dantooine Kit wit 8 charges, most were 7, some were 6. 3 our of 4 ingredients had 800+ on OQ. At the time I made the kits I was at watfairing 3. I was given 8 experiment ponts. Now that I'm at Wayfairing 4 I have yet to craft so I don't know if more points are given. I have heard one can get 10 charges per kit at master with good resources.

To me, that sounds like a tough business right now.Lots of running around and travel. 3cr per unit price might be kindof low with all the resource shifts you'll have to deal with. I think the intent of the specific home planet resources was to get people to cooperate who actually live on different planets. I think you would be more successfulif you limited the operationto acouple of planets.

As a ranger, I was thinking about doing the same thing for meat, but finding the best meats in the galaxy could cost you 20k a week in travel. How much would people pay for the best meats? I dunno.

I wish I was on your server. I'd invest in a big stockpile.

I will not buy organic resources from others, because there is no reason why a Ranger should have to.

And I think you'll find a lot of Rangers will share that opinion.

lol, do you not buy metal or polymer for your camps/traps also?

As far as the business idea, it sounds great wish I was on Chilastra so I could save me some trips . One thing that might help if you didnt know, whether its a micro, med, or large harvestor they're all one lot. I finally realized that a few weeks ago and upgraded mine. They cost about the same to run per resource harvested as a micro and you can get a ton real quick and then can take em down for awhile, or switch to something else to sell on the bazaar, etc.

I'd buy em if they're reasonably priced and from planets other than Tat. Heck, I'm buying hides (can't find bones on all of Tat on the bazaar) because it takes so long now to gather enough resources to grind camping xp. How whacked is it that a Ranger has to resort to buying hides?

I never realized that metal and polyer were organic resources. The only traps I use are lep darts and wire mesh (novice scout no less) which use bone and hide. And our camps (bases) use only a little metal and no more polymer.

In any case, even if I could get my own flora as a Ranger it still would take too long, so I'll leave it in the capable hands of our entrepreneurial friend.

Difference being metal and polymer is not anything a "ranger" could aquire himself. Fine that makes sense. But instead of utilizing our broken /forage skill to aquire flora that is all around us yet we can't just bend down and pick up, they made it so you need to pick up artisan to sample or buy it from an surveyor.

It's a conflict between realism and game economy/mechanics.

Rangers should buy these type of resources. I cannot afford 15 skill points for artesian to survey for flora.

This is what SWG is about an economy based system. Supply and demand.

As long as you price the product accordingly I would not expect to pay a high price for Naboo flora but would expect to pay a good $ for Endor or LOK. The tougher the planet and travel to get there it should refelct in the cost of things.

What I have the most problem with is now the harvest reduction making it tougher to gain the hides & bones so I can make a credit or two to pay folks like you for the supplies I need.

But good idea here- If no one else will - I will post all the flora needed for all the camo kits from each location so our buisness partners can go to work. While on lok getting that lokian wild wheat for medics - check out the flora a ranger might need.

Why not.

I'd be careful harvesting lots of these resources.

It's been said from the start, these resources are subject to change. I think the people have voiced their opinion loud enough on this forum to expect some changes when the DEV in charge is back from his vacation. It's basicly the first implemention and it hasn't really left testing phase.

Oh good grief i had not even THOUGHT about trying exerimentation out on the camp kits.

I have never really harvested before, but i found a place on tatooine near mos entha (lowca) that yields 69% Tatooinian Wild Oats (Awip). Just using a Micro Flora Harvester ive gotten quite a bit. I have recently purchased some large harvesters tho so ill be better at calculating upkeep/price ratios.

However, i wouldnt expect to get 3k for 1k's worth of Tatooinian Wild Oats or any resource required on the starter planets. You get me 1k of the stuff i need for the Dathomir Kit... and you just name your price
