Thread: RANGER bunny hugger or fighter
Ok, first off, I am not ranting here, well not really. I see people saying Rangers suck in PvP and we are stuck in PvE land forever. Horse dung.
There is one major choice each Ranger makes - do I like to play in the woods and kill beasties in PvE or do I want to kill the bad guys in PvP. Whichever choice is made, a Ranger can be, and is, a badass.
PvE - /areatrack, examine, maskscent, conceal - Please, the animals do not stand a chance. Any Master Ranger can solo about any animal anywhere. Methods may differ (run and gun maybe) but I have yet to see an animal I can't take down, eventually (ok, maybe the 125s++, but I am working on it). To this end, I could be a CH, with pets to help me. I can harvest tons of hides, meat, bone; sell it on the open market and make a fortune, retire in splendor, big house, all sorts of neat things. Yeah, not a lot of combat skills, butI make a good living.
PvP - welcome to the land of combat boys and girls, and we are the recon element. /areatrack is fantastic, who is where, how far, are they grouped. Keeping the group out of town for a bit, I go in to gather intel. Oh yeah, my head says novice medic - medics can't fight (hah). A short wander later, lil covert me has found the enemy, seen what they are doing, how many, pets, weapons, armor, is anyone hiding and sent that to my team. I stay there til combat starts, then join in. Instead of being a CH, I am a pistoleer, or a rifleman. Yeah, laff at me, I just laid a 400+ shot on ya.
I see a great future for Rangers in PvP. When (not if, when) the Devs get the trap situation sorted out and we can trap pets in combat - well, pets just became so much meat for the fire. Trap, trap, shoot, bleed, trap, shoot shoot, harvest - nice pet ya had there sport, will make a nice rug for someone.
For those of you that want to lead the charge, become something else.
For those of you who do not want to play PvP, stay Ranger. I enjoy hunting animals, harvesting and making traps. Good money, relaxing.
For those of you who realize what combat is, go Ranger and learn secondary combat skills to keep you alive. The choice is yours.
I am a Ranger, a gatherer of information who can hold his own in any firefight, be it man or animal.

I was leary on the /areatrack and still see room for improvement, but it has already allowed me to lead guildmembers to fleeing Imps running from Tyrena. It is *almost* to slow to pull off, but provided you have burst run left and/or at least one person with you, you can track a pc almost endlessly.
As for killing in PvE. I can't kill everything I could prepatch. The carbineer nerf hurt a little too much to take on those pack animals anymore, but I can still solo almost any lone creature. And /areatrack helps find those lone creatures a little easier.

Evolutionary theory of the day: God nerfed the Dodo into extinction. Many, many eons ago, the Dodo started as the Phoenix, a great and wonderous bird. However, all the other birds bitched, so slowly God ate away at the beauty and power of the Phoenix until only the poor stupid Dodo was left.
