Thread: Why Only Avian Meat?

The reason is quite simply that SOE screwed up when they decided what should take what in terms of resource costs.

Consider these prices, which are real common on Bria:

A set of doc buffs = 10k. This set of doc buff medpacks takes ~150 avian meat, plus other resources, but each pack has a bunch of charges (30 or so?). So 30 x 10k = 300k. So let's say a doctor is willing to pay 100cr/u for the meat. That still represents only 50% of gross cost of that item. And generally 10k is looked at as being a very good value from those being buffed.

A crate of pet stim C's = 150k (this price is on the high end). This take 1.2k of dath insect meat. So if you allocate half of that to the meat, you end up with 60cr/u that a BE can spend on the meat.

A tensile resistance tissue (gives bonus to melee and stun in bio engineered clothing) = 10k (again, this is on the high end). That tissue requires 70 units of hide/meat/bone. So again, if we allocate half the value of the tissue for the creature resources, we have 70cr/u that a BE can pay for these resources.

This is just how it goes. There are products, there are prices that people are willing to pay for those products, and there are costs associated with getting them made. Doctors with their price structure can afford to pay more... a LOT more.

I bust my rear harvesting the best stuff I can find and at most I can get 5cpu for it. Sorry, but I can make more money running missions in less time. On the other hand, I'll make a killing off of good avian meat up to 150cpu.

The fact is, people should be paying us more simply becuase of the time spent gathering their resources for them. Its not like we can put down a heavy harvestor and come back in a few days with 25k units. We have to track down and kill each and every creature we want to harvest. I think we should be getting paid a lot more.

Just my 2 cents. Probably an issue that has been beaten into the ground, but I needed to vent my opinion.

I made 100cpu off of some Naboo wooley that had 1000 shock resistance. No chit Sherlock. I used area track to find giant peko pekos and gularmas. 4 hours of wandering = 500k in my pocket. So it's not only avian. Also, CMs need good insect, BEs need about anything. Tailors will take any hides.

Personally, my tactic is to harvest 10, sell 8, set aside 2. Come a rainy day, I can sell that 20% of the good stuff for decent creds if the prevalent stuff sucks.

Herbivore meat is plenty valuable to Doctors. Insect Meat for Combat Medics. Nearly EVERY type of meat is valuable to chefs.

Of course the higher the stats the better... but it's not like you just strap a harvster to the back of a Piket so you shouldn't ever have too much of a problem selling it in large stacks just so Chefs, BE's and Docs can do large factory runs.

Though nothing will likely ever pay better than avian simply because of how profitable and NEEDED buffs are. Nothing else has that same value.

Avian commands those prices not only because of the perceived value of buffs (personally, I hardly ever use them, only when entering very dangerous missions like the Act III ender), but also because it is difficult to harvest in quantity. Avians on most worlds are small, in some cases very small. If the best avian meat on your server is on Tatooine, for instance, don't even bother.

I totally agree. i had some avian meat from yavin with i think at least two above 900 stats and the rest were pretty damn good as well. a doctor offered me 7cpu for it. suffice to say it's still sitting in my house.

The trade forums help with this type of stuff. I also recommend putting "business card" information in your bio and as a comment when you sell to a vendor. I get asked for resources all the time and never for less than 10 cpu.

On Kettlemoor, here are some open contracts:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=kettemoor_trade&message.id=39056 (Carnivore Meat)
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=kettemoor_trade&message.id=40099 (Herbivore and Avian Meat)

This guy sold WAY too low as the buyout was reached quickly for 8 cpu.

Oh, and I wouldn't recommend doing this again.

Just make a post called "Master Ranger Looking for Contract" and put "Ingame Email MyName with the resource you want and cpu". Take only the higer contracts.

Just trying to help. I make tons of credits off any and all available resources.

yeah i dropped that thread the next day. i think the best strategy is to only harvest the highest quality you can find and then put it up on an auction. getting 'grinding' material for someone is just not worth it imo

Right...

I also work for barter, I have docs that give me free buffs, I have AS give me sets of 85% composite, I have my entire house decorated in BE animals...and my bank account rarely shrinks in size.

From what I have found, dropping the cpu to include a barter, is a great way to endear yourself for further contracts, and it saves the pocket book of your client. You get some great stuff, some cash and a good friend.

at this point, I am so overloaded with offers on Lowca, I have focused on 2 armorsmiths, 2 doctors, 1 BE and 1 tailor for business, if i didnt say no, I would never be able to play.

Folks, (who don't already know...)

Doctors need only OQ (Overall Quality for Power (how strong the buff is))

PE (Potential Energy for charges (how many "shots" they get from one pack))

DR (Decay Resistance for duration...(how long a buff lasts...)

Don't get mad if a Doc doesnt want your 999 Flavor avian meat...it won't help him.

AND, NEVER forget about Herbivore meat!! (same rules apply above except DR is not a factor)

PS. PM me if you're on Chillastra and want to supply me with herbivore and avain...

OH and check www.swgcraft.com to see what people need...
