Hello all. I've had the game for about two weeks and quickly making my way up the scouting profession. This bring me to the question is becoming a master Ranger worth it. I wish I could read all the post here but do not have the time. I've seen very few Rangers and this has me worried that maybe this class is not fun. I just need some honest post from the people who know....so Rangers please help me out.

Thanks,

Linus

Really, this decision comes down to the type of player you are. The profession is not in the best shape right now but I love being a Ranger. The skill points probably are wasted on Ranger (in terms of how effective they are for the number used) but I enjoy playing a Ranger. Really hard to say, though. But then I'm the type of player who goes rancor hunting with no armor or buffs (and usually wins ).

Linus, that's a hard question to answer. Like Calc, I absolutely love being a Ranger, but it's more a state of mind at this point that a truly, honestly useful profession. You harvest a bit more in the organic resource department, but not as much as some people would like (myself included). You've got some neat-looking camps, but their only real advantages over smaller camps are crafting stations, which have been made all but obsolete by droids.

Tracking is nice, and I've found it very useful in PvP, but in PvE it's pretty much borked because of the way things spawn in the game. Trapping... well, trapping needs some loving, to be sure. We have two area-effect traps that kinda, sorta work, but that's it.

Terrain negotiation? The only way our bonus will really help you is if you're a Rifleman, I believe. You can crawl faster, and that's all.

But for all that's wrong with the profession, I don't plan to give it up anytime soon. You'll find that most of the long-timers here feel that Ranger is a part of who they are. There's nothing uber about it, and in fact it's a big skill point commitment for very little gain. But for some of us, that gain makes all the difference in the world.

The only way I'll be giving up Ranger is if the Space Expansion requires it.

I'll give the simple answer.... No, it's not worth it. Not at all.

Traps = ??? Why bother???

Tracking = only usefull for tracking players, hardly worth the SP cost. Considering a speederbike will do the job of reconisance well enough.

Frontiering = neat looking camps, makes for a cozy spot for a group to sit around doing nothing at.

Wayfarring = Ability to coneal onesself farely well from red agro's and detection by creatures/npc's otherwise. By the time you hit master ranger, I seriously doubt your going to be insuch a posistion wherehiding from the agro's is really a problem.

Met someone tonight who has been playing the game for over a monthand I was the first Master Ranger he had ever seen. Being a ranger is like being a bigfoot. People are pretty sure you exist. Some have caught fleeting glimpses of you, but for the most part, they believe you are just a myth. Even if they see the tag over your name, they still don't believe it. Being a Ranger is entirely a state of mind right now. That state of mind is called insanity. LOL. Just kidding.

In all seriousness, Ranger is not worth the skill point expenditure right now if you want to be able to use those skills for something else. I am perfectly fine for the time being having a Master Ranger/Master Fencer. There may come a time, when my patience wears thin, but for now I like being a Ranger. Heck, we are what the Jedi are SUPPOSED to be. Few and far between. And hiding away in the wilderness somewhere.

Your friendly neighborhood Ranger,

Reyune

The hardest part about being a ranger is coming to read our forum herelooking forsome hope, and not getting any of it.

There is plenty of hope. Just not for the short term. We really hope the Devs will give us a profession worth the title of Ranger. We just realize that it might take them a while to do it. Plenty of hope but also plenty of level headed reasoning. What we want will take time. What we have works (even if not especially well or usefully). I would prefer if Rangers was a bit higher up in the priority tree but it's not (at least as far as anyone can tell). So we wait. I'm just hoping that I can become a Master Ranger/Jedi Master after the Jedi Revamp.

Sadly, I, too, am reconsidering my ranger position.

I've played for two weeks now.. and I'm soo close to Novice Ranger.. but what do I have to look forward to? fustration?

I'm an action kind of guy- and right now there's hardly no action in Rangers. I'm about to pick up Novice Rifleman.. I'm thinking about my opinons at this point. Not too many. I'm not going BH- Thats for sure. I'm already a rifleman so Smuggler is out of the question. I could take up TKA...
