I'm sure this isn't a new idea, but I'd like to be able to make some ranger-made buff foods using foraged items as components, mixed with the resources we hunt. Obviously these can't be crated either. You'd have to be a nut to want to forage 200 melons to make a few crates of Fancy Ranger Made Buff Foods. Could be anything from a mind buff (not as potent or long lasting as brandy) to increased resistance to diseases and poisons. Maybe even cures! I'd like to see that as part of the Frontiering branch, if such a thing were ever implemented.
Comments?

Hi all
I agree. It would have been great to actually feel the need to forage. The"cure issue"has been covered in other threads that adresses frontiering and camps.
Personally,I only do it to feed my pets.
...track me if u can...

nerf /forage!
Hmm actually, yeah it's a great idea. Ranger recipes to make ointments, salves and elixirs from flora that we forage. Definitely thumbs up!

Many ideas on this topic have been posted before, most of which have influeced the chef and doc professions too much but i think we could make a proposal that limits this and makes us much funner profession to play.
I love the idea of making Ranger into a Master Of The Wilderness class. Using the wilderness and the items contained within to survive and aid in hunting. This would be great for moving us slightly towards that goal.
The buffs we get should be in line so that it apears we should have them. What i mean by that is i dont want to see buffs that give resistances to fire and is made from 3 melons, an onion and a twig. Id rather see resistances to bleeding made from some items that should be added to the forage table.
As i see it the ranger forages flora and other items (perhaps from certain planets or zones where they are available) and uses these or the item itself to give temp buffs. For example, the Ganchewa Leaf, if ingested gives natural resistances to poisons for a short period of time. The Ulmar Pod on the other hand increases the bodies natural amount of platelette providing resistances to bleeding effects.
A good idea would be to have 2 types of ranger flora foods. Resistive foods and Regeneration Foods. i will explain these later.
I dont want to be the cook realy because i dont want to take anything away from chef but yeah 'camp fire cooking' could be something that doesnt take much away from chefs. We wouldnt realy be crafting, just mixing a few plants we foraged. Perhaps we would require a camp fire module (increases wound auto-healing, and provides a cooking pot to make ranger buffs. This would involve the chef more and not slice chefs out of the deal.
The resistive food buffs themselves should be (like i mentioned earlier) 'meant' to be there such as resistances to diseases, poisons, bleeds and status effects. These sort of buffs would be desirable by the ranger class and coupled with some innate resistance mods could make us much more effective at hunting without turning us in chefs or docs.
The buffs should last for around 30 mins so they would be prety limited in use but this shouldnt be a problem for a ranger who likes to plan for hunts. He could whip up a batch of resistance foods and there would be no need to stop and cook during a hunt.
The fillings on the foods should be minimal, to the point where poison, disease, bleed and status effect foods should be eadable at the same time and'burn off'by the time the buff ends (30 mins). Also thereshould be enough room(stomachwise) to eat a couple of other regeneration foods.Thesefoods would be relatively small buff wise but would allow rangers or players within the ranger camp to enhance their regenerative abilities much more. Diseases and poisons should pass much quicker whilst eating this natural food, bleeds should stop much faster etc. Perhaps all the ranger foods are non-tradable or perhaps only a ranger can eat them but the ranger should be able to use natural items to allow them to survive in the wilderness.
I would love to see tonnes of different flora items added to the forage list, some only available on certain planets and zones (if possible). Perhapssome items arespecific for each planet who knows, these are all options available to us. But one thing is for sure, i want forage to help turn ranger into this Master of the Wilderness class. These forage changes coupled with innate resistances should help realise this idea to a great degree. Also of note is, as i see it,adding these items and ideas wouldnt be very hard to do. Especially if we stayaway from cooking and just eatforaged items instead, it will just be a change of filling rates, buffamounts and mod effect of items.

Ranger should and conceptionally could have many elements in the profession that could be summed up at as "mini-versions" of other professions. I wouldn't mind seeing these changes, especially as OWen suggested but in all honesty I dont think it's a good idea to step on too many toes. Overall ranger needs to be given its own role rather taking bits and pieces of other professional roles/skills.
I think that it would be way too simple and ultimately non-rewarding for us, if devs began tweaking our already possessed skills to make them virtually minute versions of skills possessed by other examples.
E.G. (these are randoms ideas suggested by many rangers on the boards at some point)
foraged foods that give buffs for a short time- chefs and/or docs
camps that heal BF- entertainer/musician/dancer
traps that do damage- commando
etc.

i LOVE this idea.
technically, a ranger should be a totally self sufficient hunter (short of buying guns, armor, clothing, ect.) we are the masters of outdoor survival. we shouldn't have to come into the big city in order to survive out there in the woods. but, a better buff, better food, ect would be our incentive to come into the big city, and purchase these items from doctors, chefs, merchants, ect.

I believe that Ranger should be one of the few professions that one should have to be a soloist. Not be able to solo anything/lair in the game. Just be able to survive longer than others, be stronger and heal better without needing others help. With that in mind I will still need to buy weapons, clothing, armor, chef foods and the occasional doctor buff.
Just like TKM... They can solo more unbuffed just from having minibuffs and the ability(outside battle) to heal poisons, wounds, diseases and stop bleeds. Sure their downside is only one damage type but still. The Ranger should have minibuffs. The Ranger should be able to last ALOT longer than anyone else out there before having to stop and get that battlefatigue healed.
/waiting on revamp.. /sigh

As an addition to the stuff forage could provide, It would also make sense that as we , the Rangers, Who know everything about the creature we just killed could forage usefull parts from the animals corpses. 90% of all medicines are plant or animal based, and of them most will kill you if you take to much. We have the knowledge and the defunct skill they just need working toghter.

This thread reminded me that I haven't used forage since sometime in September 2003 lol. Samegoes formedical forage. I would love to be able to create stuff from foraged items if the end result was useful... i.e. resistance buffs... cures, creature damage bonus, etc...
Cheers,

I for one like the idea and think that something like this needs to be brought up. The devs do not seem to want to make foraging to powerful so not to step on Docs and Chefs. That is fine for someone in the Scout level. But as Rangers we are Master Survivalist, campfire cooking is a must if you are going to survive in the wilderness.
The few things that we need:
Camp Pot – only useable in a camp, the tool used to make our stuff
Foraged Items – Use the same items that we get now.
Animal Meat – Can leave out steak and jerky
Water – everyone has to have a tie with the other professions this is it.
Chef Items – this could the optional field like chef has for BE stuff. Think of it as spices to make it tasted good!

*Cooking the items dose a few thing:
*Cooks off the unneeded stuff – Lowers the fill rate.
*Turns some things into a broth – this would be a drink item needing glasses
*Makes a palpable pasted – This could be like after battle healing stuff. Not useable in a fight. Palpable to other people by a Ranger.
*Possibly a stackable item

Things to add later on.
*New items that are only forgeable in special areas.
Ex: it only grows 20m from X creatures lair or in X cave.

I really like the idea of foraging for food items and I would like to see something done with it that would make a Ranger proud to have it in his/hers skill set.

love the cooking ideas blade, but i still think that actually cooking will drag us too deep into a war with chefs. Im all for foragable foods either in edible for or they would need to be refined in some way but i think actually cooking the foods seems a little too risky to propose.

I know what you mean and i also know it will not happen but one can dream.
I dont like posting anything negative so I am say anything about who step on us. But lets just say it dose happen how about this to.
When a person comes within 100m of a Ranger camp they get a system message “The smell of fresh cooked food rides on the breeze.”
Ok dream is over I just woke up.

oh i like that mate
dont get me started because ill be here all day creating a proposal on it
Too late. Ill give you my view on how it could be made. Its an alternative take on yours leaning more towards herbs and flora than cooking. Ill post it soon once i finish it
