Thread: An Idea for Rangers in PvP

I am unsure if anything like this has been posted before so sorry if it has.

Last night while fighting in PvP I had an idea that might actually make us useful in PvP here it is:

In modern PvP we all know it is dominated by Jedi that force run at the firs chance they get, well my idea leaches of other peoples ideas (mainly people trapping and the bow), as I was watching the Jedi force run as they where taking a beating I though what if Rangers had traps that removed but and force run, or at least delay them for an amount of time such as you seesomeone about to burst/forcerunnear you throw a trap and delay his/her burst/forcerun for an amount of time depending on your level i.e.

At novice you get a trap that affect theburst/forcerun status

Novice Ranger: 5 second delay

Trapping 1:10 second delay

Trapping 2:15 second delay

Trapping 3: 20 second delay

Trapping 4: 25 second delay

Master Ranger: 30 second delay

But when your target starts to gain distance you can use your bow,at Novice Ranger you get certs for the bow but at this level it is highly unaccurate and you may hit friends who area in chase and as you advance through trapping you get a higher accuracy with the bow but even at master you can still miss.

Traps with the bow could be place in it such as bait with the fishing rod, but only allow one trap pack in it at one time meaning you have to load in a new trap pack in the middle of pvp giving you oppenent chance to escape (being fair).

Just my idea for rangers in PvP

Not a bad idea.

But the devs have stated Rangers will not get traps to effect Players/NPCs.

That is a great idea and would certianly help us out in the Jedi Wars, but as the other peeps said...the devs told us we will never trap humanoids... /sigh

as everyone has said...these are great ideas. They are different and cool....so good job on that front. and keep them coming.

the other issue that the others didn't mention was the issue of he bow hiting other people. I doubt this will come into effect (although if it does, it should be universal--i'd love to see a fight in the Theed Starport Square with all the ad barkers taking random damage from a fight going on behind them. The issue, as I understand it, is how the system calculates if a shot hits you. It is very complicated as heck but essentially it's the (attackers roll)x(attackers modifiers)-(defenders roll)x(defenders modifiers). This is a very basic and ugly way of describing the complex system, but basically, it's based on the old school pen-and-paper games. Now the problem arises when you take into account bystanders, because you'd have to do the calculations for each person. So if you happen to be fighting in Theed with 50 bystanders (not an uncommon event by any means) the system would have to run up to 50 checks to see if you hit each person. And in this case, the noobs in the area would get decimated, since they go to starter cities and since their defenses suck, they would get hit most often, especially if the happen to wander close to the fight.

In other words, they would have to either make the system calculate for each person in the area, causing excessive server drain OR they'd have to change the way people got hit. Perhaps a logical solution would be if both parties rolled a number, such as 1 (or whatever the lowest roll is) or something like that, where a specific duo of rolls would result in the player closest to the defender to get hit WITH NO CHANCE OF IT MISSING. That would help make it simple on the server. Even still, I forsee a lot of problems.

But as we've all said, these are good ideas. If you keep 'em coming, you're gonna find one that we're gonna salivate until we get.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

It would not matter if I could hit with a trap. In PvP everyone does thier absolute best at getting the speed cap. In the time from throwing just one trap to the next option you could be KD/dizzy'd or just shot to death outright. Traps are just too slow to be of use for it.

Ok, here my idea we can't throw traps that effect players ok but what about being able to pplace traps stationary ones such as some kind of mine like thing just to cause dammage or like slime pits or something fer effects not actual traping they dun have to run into it and its more a defense advantage then anything such as placing around bases or camps seeing minefileds dont do a thing and we all know it....
