You never use them? Wow! I wouldn't hunt without a good supply of Phecnacine Darts (they significantly slow down the mob for a good 15-20 seconds - plenty of time to get off a few good shots from your pistol or rifle). If you are melee, these traps aren't all that useful unless you are trying to slow down an add. However, melee types should always have a good supply of Glow Wire Traps or Wire Mesh Traps (Glow Wire makes the mob more vulnerable to both ranged and melee attacks and the Wire Mesh Traps only make the mob more vulnerable to melee attacks). Noise Makers are great for stunning the mobs and Bone Spurs are great for blinding the mobs.
In the Ranger line you get Sonic Pulse, which is supposed to stun and make dizzy the mobs but there are 2 things you should know - (1) mobs can't be dizzied and (2) Sonic Pulse is AoE. So it might be slightly better at stunning mobs than the Noise Maker but if you don't want to anger a bunch of mobs at once, don't use it. You also get the Flash Bomb trap which is another blinding trap and I am not sure but it might be AoE too.
Anyway, to answer your question, traps are extremely useful. I never go hunting without them.

For everyone but Rifles, traps should be an automatic.
Pdarts slow, sharp bone spurs blind and a glowwire drop resists. Those 3 traps right there help 100% of the non-rifle Rangers.
Not picking on rifles. Y'all do things differently and don't really need traps.
On a good day, I can drop level 40 missions on Endor unbuffed, but with a droid, all day and never get hit. Stupid gurrecks love to give me meat and hide. The droid grouping gives me extra XP and serves as a tank.
On a bad day, I pop a Pdart and shoot and scoot. On a really bad day I pop an adhesive mesh and run my butt off.
Traps make life a lot easier.

As a riflewoman / ranger I can't overstate the usefulness of the Phecnacine Dart. It's ability in slowing down creatures so you can retain a good position is superb.

I don't use traps as much anymore as I really should. Mainly because I am always partnered with a certain special Master BE/CH
Her pets make extremely effective tanksso the Pdarts, etc don't have as much use to me.
However, because her pet tanks and all the mobs tend to cluster around her pets, Sonic Pulses are the one trap I do use from time to time. Not so much for the dizzy effect, but the AOE stun is very useful. If I were hunting solo it would probably be a different story.

I toyed with some traps just last night. I decided that instead of spending time lobbing traps (and seeing them resisted) I should wade in and drop theentire spawn of 5 rancors with a couple area attacks. Just run in there, slice em up and chop em down. It's rather brainless, but it's fun.
