well I've never wanted to use traps ever again after the painful grinding in trapping exp as a scout to get master scout then ranger but after I've heard about the new traps I'm reconsidering. I didn't get even one box for trapping in the ranger profession but I'm gonna start now today. I'm loading up on Adhesive Meshs, Phecnacine Darts, and Glow-Juice Traps but what should I hunt? I'm on Tatooine right now and I'm thinking about going after banthas but is there anything else that's slower than me? snorbals are not a good idea cause Lok is screwed and I'm gonna need a large group and I wanna solo so any advice would be appreciated.

you Really should get into a large group, head to Dathomir and find people hunting there, I hit Trapping IV in one night off Datomir mobs.

Yes, Dathomir is a great place for XP. About 405xp per Giant Baz Nitch you trap. Maybe more but definitely not less than 405.

Also, why are you loath to use traps? The scout traps are not that bad. The glowire severely cuts down a creatures ranged and melee defense, and the phecnacine will slow the animal down to a crawl. I often pull creatures with traps first. Put them in your hotkeys. If there are three Baz's it's tab, phecnacine, tab, phecnacine, tab, phecnacine. By this time your friends are already shooting and you throw on some glowires and you can cut them down much quicker than you can with their ranged / melee D being normal.

Also, Lok is not screwed to the point you can't hunt Snorbies. Go NW of Nym's into the South Dakota Wasteland looking place with white ground. There you can find Snorbal nests in areas big enough to play with them without hitting aggro mobs. Just make sure you take on the females and calves otherwise the males will baf you. Also they are even slower on hills so find a valley and keep leading them up and down the valley walls. Full-grown females or elder females are worth 3500 xp if you solo them, Elder Males worth about 4300.

Trapping, a grind? If you say so.

Load up a hotbar with about 5 different types of traps. It doesn't matter what kind, except that phecnacine dart is the first one. Find some extra large non-social herbivore, such as a sharnaff, ronto, or the like. Starting at maximum trapping distance (40m or so? not sure), hit the phec dart first for as many throws as it takes for one to stick, and snare the beast. Then hit your other 4 in sequence. By the time they're done, the critter will probably be breaking loose, so hit the phec dart again, and repeat the process until you run out of either traps or Action points. You'll get hundreds of Trapping xp per hit, amounting to thousands of xp before the critter incaps you. Having picked an herbivore, it won't db you, so get back up, rest up your HAMs, and do it again. You'll max out in no time.

I did all my trapping on Lok and Naboo, on Snorbals and Faamba respectively.

Lok isn't that bad, just run SE(that area seems to have the highest Snorbal density)or grab a couple missions. With Maskscent on, skirt around the NPC baddies. Lay at least four traps on a Snorbal and that's about 1800 XP right there. Wash, rinse, repeat.

No need to use different traps, the Wire Mesh traps stack. Just crank out a few ctrates of those low cost traps and a few Phec Darts for control and have at it.

Took meone day to Trap Master using these on Feral Banthas. Also made a couple Creature Handler levels sicing my cu pa to finish them off.

wow thx for the advices everyone. i think I'm gonna go to Lok for some snorbals. I'm glad rangers and scouts are so friendly everywhere I go I'm never gonna regret picking this profession

BTW- as soon as the new ranger traps and items come out I think I'm gonna be selling them at low prices on my vendor for those rangers that aren't artisans and don't want to waste their skill pts on it.

Crafting traps will be giving Wilderness Experience and not general crafting after the fixes. So selling them might not be that great since aspiring Rangers will rather craft than camp to get the XP.

Got fromNovice Rangerto Trap masteryesterday. I only used wire mesh traps on torturs while my rock beetle tanked them. When the beetle got low on health my troopers and me finished off the creature. I usually could throw about 10 traps per tortur.

Um sorry guys, i dont see it.

I got all the boxes of trap before i got the first line of every other ranger profession in about 3 days. It got to the point that i had to leave to get training becuase i couldnt earn anymore.

How did i do that you ask?

Well, a friend and myself went to Endor and we hunted Mereks.

Now bare with me, i was only using Pec Darts (slows em down) and he was using his kitties, then we where both using our ranged weapons.

Now, using Pec Darts (The best dart there is for PvE) i was getting about 900xp per success, and generally with each merek i could usually get about 3 success in, so that is like 3k per creature and trapping. Then you get about 1k in scouting XP as well.

Dont be afraid get into a group and hunt the big game, as it is, myself and my good hunting friend work together alot and we complement each others skill to the point where i am 4/1/4/4 in ranger (saving my camp XP for the new patch) and that is by simply playing the game.
