Thread: Ranger creature Bonus to Hit & Melee?

I am a pikeman with many ranger skills. There is a "Creature - Bonus to Hit" in the 3rd tree. (currently called Field Bio-Science). If you read the description It applys to ranged attacks only. Why?

Why can't this apply to melee as well? If I know a creature has week knees or a soft skull, I want to take advantage of this with my vibro lance, not a gun. I believe being a ranger should be a bonus to any combat class, melee or ranged, and not exclusive.

"If you read the description It applys to ranged attacks only. Why?"

- The primary reason is that Ranged fighters need to "run and gun" (read kiting) in order to stay alive during combat. While running your accuracy is reduced. So this bonus improves their chances of hitting while running

- In the melee case, we don't need to run around, so we apparently don't require a bonus. Once you make it to the highest skill of your profession, you'll find that you don't miss very often anyways.

- It has been suggested that melee players get a "Creature to DODGE" bonus. I like this idea, and would come in handy for all levels of melee fighters.

That makes sense...but I would like to see more value in the Ranger profession for the melee skill set.

I do like a "Creature + Dodge" concept. That seems to be a good mix and provide a little diversity between ranger/melee and ranger/ranged.

My other concern with the ranger classis the Terrain Negotiation bonus. Anything past 50 (60?)only makes prone speed increase which I can see very helpful for a sniper/rifle or even carbine. These bonuses are essentialy worth nothing to a melee class. If you see a pikeman hit the dirtthey did not choose to be there...KD or dead or something. Wayfairing skills do appear to be changing in the near future so I do have hope of this changing. I would like to see burst run delay reductions or something of that nature...

Yes -I will admit I have had to run from a few bad guys in my day...he he he

"These bonuses are essentialy worth nothing to a melee class."

- What? You don't crawl up to aggro beasts and punch them in the shins?

- I agree that Prone Speed has less benefit to the Melee Ranger than the Ranged Ranger. There have been suggestions on other threads about changing the benefits of Terrain Negiotation, hopefully someone will take heed.

- When they designed the Ranger class they seemed to have Ranged fighting on their mind, and left us poor melee fighters out in the cold

The descriptions for Rangers in their skill tree do not come anywhere close to how the game works. There are descriptions in the tree that we know do not exist.

There are descriptions in the tree that we know do not work like the description.

How do we know the crature to hit bonus even works for range attack? Has anyone been able to prove that someone with the exact same range offensive skill and without the creature to hit bonus actually misses more?

Has anyone proven that someone with the exact same melee skill and without the creature to hit bonus will miss the same percentage as someone with it?

My traps are a range attack but I still miss 50+% of the time. That seems about the same as my melee attack.
