Thread: My views on the recent changes

Ok, I was on vacation for about a week, and when I got back I was slapped with this patch. I have not had time to read everypost, however I have read a few, and I logged in last night and here are some of my views:

Harvesting

First the changes to harvesting are poor at best. Most changes are generally made to promote grouping in some way, but the changes to harvesting do just the opposite. When I played last night I didn't get a chance to do anything solo, but while grouped with a couple of my friends I don't harvest nearly as much as I used to.

Now everything that I had read up until now said that multiple scouts would be able to harvest from the same creature, butneither of the people I was grouped with last night have any scouting skills. Personally I would prefer having the numbers put back to the way they were before, then allow multiple resources to be harvested, but only allow a player to harvest once. Ex: I run out with a group of 5 people two of whom are scouts. When we kill a creature, then we should each be able to harvest something from the creature (bone, hide, or meat) once we harvest something, we cannot harvest again. This I think would solve a lot of the problems that I have experienced and read about thus far.

Tracking

Ok, now first just let me say that I LOVE the idea of us finally getting tracking *applaud*. However the implementation thus far is poor at best. Ok, let me start off with the things that I do like about it (I have tracking 4): I like the menu asking me what I want to look for; this type of filtering is a good idea that should have been carried a step further, but more on that in a minute. I like that you have to be standing still while you are tracking something, though this too could use some workmore...

What I don't like about the implementation of tracking could fill a chapter of an Anne Rice novel, but I'll try too keep it brief. The needs to be more/better filtering. The Devs did well by giving us options with the first menu, however there needs to be move filtering so that you can actually track what you are looking for. As it stands now, I am always exceeding the 50 limit so I don't get everything; though I am sure that this will be fixed once we stop tracking pets, dead creatures, objects, etc (how exactly do you track a store?)

I would also like to see some form of persistent tracking, where I can select a creature that comes up on my menu click 'OK' and I can be pointed in that direction via WP. Right now its a little irritating for those with me to have to stop and wait every 200-300m while I start tracking again. I personally have no problem with how long it can take for me to track something, but having to do this every time for the same creature does tend to get old after a while.

MaskScent

Take the experience away, but leave the notification for successes and failures. For those of you who are not Master Rangers I have this to say...'Cry me a river.'

I am not yet a Master Ranger either (I still have about 50,000 scouting and 80,000 survival experience to go). I also earned my scouting experience. I didn't know that MS (Mask Scent) could be used for scouting experience until after the 60 second timer was added (mainly because I never used it), and even after that I still avoided aggressive mobs until I became a Ranger and started hunting them. So again, play the game and work for what you want and stop trying to find ways to cheat the system.

Wilderness Survival

I like getting Wilderness survival experience for making camps and for fishing... I know there's a complaint here somewhere but I just can't seem to find it...

Advanced Traps

Still broken and useless.

I hope you all have enjoyed my post. I expect to get flamed, and I expect to not care. These are my opinions, if you agree then take comfort in the knowledge you are right, if you disagree then tell me how you feel, and I'll tell you why you're wrong.

what i don't get for maskscent is that you can attack a creature and the creature you are attacking won't retailiate but the other creatures from the same lair know exactly where you are and attack you.

Advanced traps are broken and useless?

I haven't used the sonic pulse yet, but I love the flash bomb! I love the area effect, so that if my pet (or I) am mobbed, I can hit multiple creatures with it. Mm. Flash Bomb.

"Advanced traps are broken and useless?"

- I agree with Ikochan on this one. I have had reasonable success with the Area Effect traps when I used them. I am a melee fighter and only used them when the beasts were swarming me.

- I have heard though that others have not had the same success, so it is possible that using them in a "certain way" is the only way to get them to work properly.

We're going to get this, it just hasn't been implemented yet. Read the ranger feedback note.

My only beef with what we have now is that it tracks corpses. I don't care where the stuff I've killed is ... I want to know where the stuff I haven't yet killed is.

On traps, again, read the feedback note. We're getting a whole new line of traps, they just haven't been implemented. That's why our current traps still suck ... they're making new, hopefully unsucky ones for us.

Ok, this is my thrid time trying to send this message (hope it works this time)

Perhaps the general tone of my message made it seem as though I was complaining, well, I wasn't (except about the harvesting). I know that there are more changes coming for tracking and trapping, and I can't wait for them. I know that we were given tracking in its current form because, 'its better than nothing'and I'm thrilled. It still needs work, but I'm glad to have it.

I also know that the current traps are going away and a whole new line of traps will be replacing them. And for those of you who have snee the effects of the Advanced Traps, that's great, but I never have. I have never gotten a message saying that it did or didn't work, and I have never gotten experience for them. I have heard that you have to be within a certain range to get the message, but I should still get experience if the traps take affect. So again I say that the current traps are crap, but that doesn't really matter since they are going away.
