I've been complaining about the harvest changes, but as a programmer myself, I know how difficult this stuff is, and I know how easy it is for a really nasty bug to make it through testing....

(Suffice it to say, CNN almost went on air with a software upgrade which had no sound one time because of a bug which was missed by around10 different levels of testing. If a TV network can have this type of problem, a GAME will certainly have similar problems..... BTW, I'm not the guy who made that bug, I'm the guy who fixed it... )

I just wanted to say that the MMORGis an incredibly complex, completely new kind of software which is being continually reinvented as we speak. The combination of clients running complex first-person POV graphical engines which are synchronized over a world-wide network in real time is absolutely astounding. I remember playing muds, when we considered a "graphical MUD" to be one which had color highlighting for monster namesor your HP value.....

SWG is the very cutting edge. Not just of games, but of computer software. The fact that they can do this at all is a testament to the incredible skill and devotion of all the programmers, testers, and support staff at SOE. (And no, I'm not a fan-boy. I'm still irritated at the lack of thought which went into the harvesting changes. It could have been done much better.)

One final thing to consider. The computer game industry is notorious for the long hours and low pay. I really considered working for a computer game company back when I was starting my career, but I decided to work in the video industry instead because of the MUCH better pay and the more regular hours. These guys are doing this job because they want to make a great game, not just because of a paycheck. I can guarantee that the developers care more about the quality of this game than any of us, even though we might not be able to see it as players. These guys (and girls I assume) take enormous pride in their work. Claiming that they just don't care, or that they are incompetent is just flat out wrong. If they didn't care they'd be working for a company making medical billing software, and making a lot more money.

So, I just wanted to say thanks for making a great game. Thanks for making the effort to set up a corespondant program so that every profession can have its issues addressed. And thanks for putting up with the frustrations of all of us who play. Obviously, when things are working well, we're all busy playing, not commenting on the boards.....

agreed. The problem we have with harvesting is Holo has stated that it wasnt a bug.. They deliberately reduced theammount harvested while solo to "balance."

Psycho,

I love you man. Thanks for the great post.

Avezes,

You're being too literal. He said there was a "slight" reduction, and that it wasn't 50%. That's what Green told him, and I'm sure that's what Green designed. But we KNOW it's at least 60% from the numbers that have been posted here in the other threads. And we've passed that info on again. So let's let them check out our threads and realize that we are right (like they did with the T21) and we'll get it fixed.
