Thread: Do you have to use a camo kit on each person in the group?
I was grouped on Endor with a friend. He was the leader of the group. I didn't select anything and typed /conceal. It said I couldn't conceal while maskscented. I unscented, and /concealed again. It worked and gave me the same little nose thingy from maskscent but I got the message that I'd been concealed. But the buy I was grouped with didn't get concealed. I tried to conceal myself again but it said I was already concealed so I couldn't. I clicked on my groupmate and typed /conceal again. It used another camo kit and /concealed him as well, he got that little maskscent nose thingy too. However when you hover the mouse over it, it says the same stuff as if you had maskscent on. His broke almost as soon as we got near a red dot. Mine never broke tho and I didn't get any xp from it.
First, I thought conceal was supposed to cover the whole group with each kit, not having to use a kit on each person in the group. If you have to use a kit on each person, then the kits are almost pointless.
Second, if the conceal isn't based on my camo skill since I make the kit, why bother wasting a kit anyway. If the person you conceal is lower in the camo skill mod, it'll break everytime anyway.
Third, to me, it seemed that maskscent seemed to work better the pain-in-the-butt-to-make camo kits and you get scout xp from that too. Not that I need that as I've maxed my scouting xp skills.
Am I doing something wrong with the camo kit? Do I need to be the leader of the group to conceal the whole group? Has anyone else experienced any of these things?
Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.
"First, I thought conceal was supposed to cover the whole group with each kit"
- Not from what I heard. One kit per use. One use per person.
"Second, if the conceal isn't based on my camo skill since I make the kit, why bother wasting a kit anyway."
- When you use the /conceal command, I believe it usesyour camo skill to determine the effect.
- As well, the camo skill is used to determine how many experimentation points you have when creating the kits
"Third, to me, it seemed that maskscent seemed to work better "
- I'm sure it does for the moment. However you can't use /maskscent on other people. ![]()
- /conceal is supposed to be better... There are issues that need to be looked into by our absentee developer. They will be resolved soon, I'm sure. ![]()
It is supposed to be based of your camo skill when concealing others, but I suspect from first hand experience is that if the person you are concealing has any scout skills, it actually uses their camouflage skill to determine effectiveness.
I also suspect /maskscent and /concel not only use camou skill to determine effectiveness, but there is a second calculation performed, which I will call the Las Vegas skill modifier, when approaching mobs. With 115camo skill my camo breaks way too often by evenmobs lower in CL thenI am lol, such as CL20 or below.
/maskscent and /conceal both give me scout xp, except /conceal only gives me around 60% of what /maskscent would have given me, but I get also xp from NPC.
With camps more dispersed , less focused around towns and bases, I use maskscent 99% of the time for myself. /conceal has avery poorsuccess rate against NPC (I try using it against Pubams most of the time), and it is not worth my time it took the resources to gather, to apply it to myself. I use the camo kits exclusively for non-scout based players now.
Getting /conceal and /areatrack is a good, -no- a huge stepforward forour profession, but in its current implementation it is only window dressing, but a solid foundation to work off. So do not expect perfect results/implementations the first week or month it goes live ![]()
Besides using a kit for each application of conceal, on each person, it does give xp. I run with a friend of mine that has some explore, and low level mask scent. I put a camo kit on him and had walk, not run, towards some reds, and I was getting scouting xp for it. I walked over with him and I got scout xp for my success with it. We both walked right into the middle of the group, and neither of us had the conceal break. It was great, we walked right into the middle of a group of tusken raiders, and right into the face of the leader. And this was with only wayfairing 1. Mind you we walked, so as not to get the major penalty of running.
Now I have used it on myself, and run, not walk, cross country and have my conceal break on lower level creatures my mask scent wont break on. Also breaking on NPC that are blue to me. That was kind of dissapointing. I'm curious how well it works compaired to mask scent for those master rangers.
