I thought that melee Rangers DO get the "to hit" bonus now. Am I wrong?

"what are you thoughts on Ranger + Melee/TKA?"

- I enjoy the "in your face" combat that melee provides. Its fast and furious, and very exciting at times.

- The crowd control moves (spin attacks) are also quite amusing when surrounded by a dozen light blue beasties.

- If you are factioned, then I do suggest going Overt and pulling out a couple troopers before wading into larger battles against ranged NPCs. It can get dangerous against a large group of Ranged opponents if you don't have someone to take some of the fire.

- You should of course read up on the limitations/issues regarding melee combat in the PvE and PvP arena, before jumping in headfirst.

Issues I have run into:

1) Large HAM costs for special moves: Unlike Pistoleers who can spam special moves near constantly, meleers need to space their moves out or risk incapping themselves

2) Target out of Range: Many of the "longer" beasts (like snakes, Fambaas, etc.) tend to move away from you during combat, though they can still hit you, you can't hit them.

3) Kiting: With the recent addition of position change timers, you have one shot to stop a kiting NPC and pummel him to death, before they get back up and kite you for the next 20 seconds.

4) Armor wear: Because you are in close range, your armor will degrade faster than a Ranged fighter. This in effect makes wearing armor cost ineffective... Especially the more expensive armor.

5) Lack of good weapons:If youfind a Weaponsmith who sells good quality melee weapons, buy 4 of each. There are few people who bother with making GOOD melee weapons due to limited demand.

If you can handle the challenge, I encourage you to join the dark side.

NRaas, thanks for the info. As always, informative and helpful.

The close up action does seem exciting, but I remembered when I was going for smuggler I didn't like all the running around I had to do with unarmed. Just so much easier to shoot. =) I've been reading the proposed upgrades TKA will be getting and they seem like a great addition. A shortlived burstrun type attack would be great IMO for those NPC kiters.

Still thinking about it. It's a good thing SWG allows you to surrender skills. That's one thing they got right.

BTW. That's my suggestion... not something that's proposed...

- Definitely. Being able to surrender skills, without rerolling my entire character, is the main reason I chose this game to play over all other MMOGs.

- I was a UO gamer. If I can't changeskills midstream, its not the system for me.

I'm currently climbing up the Pistoleer tree. I can live with the pistoleer deficiencies until they're fixed so that's not the issue. If I take TKA or any other elite brawler profession for that matter, I can master it and keep First Aid I. Not the mention I like the fact that TKA's can heal their own wounds although our camps do that too.

Current meleers, what are you thoughts on Ranger + Melee/TKA? I dont care that I dont get a creature bonus to hit currently.

well I for one DO CARE that we dont get that creature to hit bonus. It woudl be helpful and would make sense too.

I have foudn Ranger / TA to be an enjoyabel combination so far. Though far from the max power combo you coudl get if tried a different profession plus Ranger.
