Novice Rangers - Terrain Negotiation +5

Master Rangers - Terrain Negotiation +50

In principle, I would like to see Terrain Negotiationmodifiedfor theRanger profession. I would offer that it should be changed to Terrain Mastery and have at least some of the following skill add's in addition to the current Terrain Negotiation value adds.

Accuracy while Moving +5 Novice to + 20 Master (stacks on all Pistol/Rifle/Carbine skill mods)

Aiming while Moving (new skill)+5 Novice to +30 Master (stacks same as listed above)

Dodge +20 Novice to +40 Master

In general, I believe anyone that levels up through Scout Terrain Negotiation has come to a point where they can successfully negotiate through harsh terrain at a higher concentration level while moving. This concentration level wouldallow Ranger's to overcome some if not all of the negativeeffects of moving. To the pointwhere a Master Ranger has 'NO' negative effects while moving.

In essense, a Master Ranger movingshould be able to almost do as much damage asstanding with extravalue of defensive Dodge effects. After all, Dodging should be easier while moving using terrian to full advantage than just standing still.

Ummmm... decent idea but you left all of us melee rangers out in the cold. What do we get out of it? Not all of us are ranged fighters. Ranger is about survival and secondary support not fighting. I don't think it fits with the theme we have

Where's the love people?

Not sure. I can definitely say that terrain negotiation is a combination of fitness and experience. When I was in the Marines we were masters of covering terrain that no foreign military (or even the US Army) would march through. Being able to move a company of Marines through difficult terrain that other units would never hack through is a massive advantage in warfare.

But bonuses to running and firing I think would be a little unfair in PvP. This game's hard to balance as it is.

If Ranger's get anything, though, as far as terrain negotiation, I would like us to be able to either have extended burst run or be able to use it more frequently. Once vehicles come out we'll likely be the only ones who prefer it on foot, and this should show. Besides, have you seen how long some animals will pursue you?

Hey Ypiana;

You were a Marine? Me too. Sgt, 0311, Fox 2/7, 86-92. Got to agree with you about moving through terrain, my Lt. got us lost so many times we called him Wrong Way McCray, hehehe.

Semper Fi bro.

Yeah, forget weapons of mass destruction, the most dangerous thing in the world is a butterbar with a map and compass.

Unless he's a mustang, that is.

Seriously, land nav is tricky to learn, especially in the military. I thinkthe 'this is serious and official, learn it or else' type environmentwould fry the brains of both lewies and privates alike. Then the lieutenants try to lead a platoon of Marines, 90% of whom have more experience with land nav than they do, and they just lose their minds, because I've taught it to kids land nav and they'ddo better and learn faster than lieutenants and privates. My first job out of the Corps was being an instructor who would take Boy Scouts age 13 - 17 on weeklongbackpacking treks. We would give the kids a crash course in using USGS maps and the standard-issue military lensatic compass. (World's best compass, IMHO, works in both hemispheres, has radium dials for night, and is nigh-invulnerable)

The kids would plot their own waypoints and then they'd take turns navigating the party. My partner and I would only offer instruction and advice, not answers. By the end of the week we'd have 13-year-old boyswho could orient the map to magnetic north, adjust the magnetic declination, sight landmarks, and navigate the party to the desired waypoint by pace count. Man, those kids would think they were uber by the end of the week. And they were!

Me I was 4341, 92 - 97, Headquarters 3rd MEF 93 - 95, HQMC 95 - 97. 11B, NHANG 97 - 99 3/172 - the US Military's only dedicated Alpine Unit.

U-rah, Hu-rah, and most of all Semper Fi!
