Why does it let me select an animal from areatrack if it isn't going to make a waypoint....i think this skill DESPERATELY needs waypoint capability in order to make it useful.

You mean you need waypoints to tell direction?

Don't mean to sound like a troll, but honestly, if you can't figure out how to travel x metres northeast without a waypoint, you're lost, mate.

Okay, let me preface by saying that I'm not a moron. Really!

Trained Novice Ranger last night. When I use /areatrack, I get a pop-up window...I pick "animals" and then after a few secondsI get a boxshowing what critters are nearby.

But...! I highly a critter and click the "okay" (or whatever it's called) buttom and I can't see that anything is happening. No messages saying the mob is n meters to the west, no arrow, no pop-up box... what am I missing?

Unless I'm missing something as well, that's pretty much how areatrack works. You look for things around you, see something you are interested in, and head off in that direction. From what I've its the /track command that will give you more precise locations on targets.

Well that's the part I'm missing... the pop-up with the animal names in it doesn't say what direction to head off in. Or at least if it does, I'm somehow overlooking it.

- You receive direction and distance when you get the higher Tracking skill boxes.

- But yes, /areatrack is simply a listing of creatures in your vicinity, nothing more.

Look at the tree for tracking, you have to go up in some more boxes before you get the abilities for distance and direction. I don't have my game open right now so i can't give you specifics, but basic Ranger gives areatrack and animals, the 1st box gives direction, 2nd box gives distance, 3rd box gives people, and 4th box gives players. I think. Some of the boxes may be mixed up.

Your not doing anything wrong, just not at a high enough level. Highlighting and clicking dosen't do anything for making a waypoint or a dot on the map. It would be nice if it did, but it dosen't.

Just try a nice spiral search pattern and you should be able to find what you are looking for eventually. The range is only 500 meters so it shouldn't take you too long, and if you are in a party you can split up and have people recon in different directions.

Thanks guys. I searched board posts last night and didn't see where anyone else had the same problem... I was stumped. Guess I was expecting something more along the lines of EQ's tracking skill.

So the higher one goes in the Tracking tree the ability "/track" will be available?

And if so, you can place someone's name after track and then what happens? How far is the range of the /track?

Just looked it up. Tracking 1 gives direction, 2 gives people, 3 gives distance, and Tracking 4 gives players.

The /track skill has not yet been implemented so I'm not sure where it will show up in the tree.
