Thread: Thats right...im a Holo chaser
I am visiting the Ranger profession....doing the holo thing. This may not be new or unique....but I thought of something last night once I got Master Scout (and needed 15,000 scouting xp). I tried to think of the fastest way to get scouting xp to get novice ranger (as well as to go up the Ranger scouting trees). Well I went out and bought 2 articles of clothing that each has +15 mask scent and I then went to Dath and flew around on my speeder for 30 minutes. That is how long it took me to get 15,000 scouting xp with a +130 mask scent.
Just thought I'd share my experience and how I got from master scout to novice ranger in 30 minutes (from 0 to 15,000 scouting xp). I am sure this is a technique that I will be using to go up the Ranger latter (the scouting trees anyhow).
Anyhow ....I came to the realization that SOE has made me into a master grinder (I did Master Combat Medic from Novice Medic in less then 10 hours of play time...and yes...I have a full time job and I'm married....just took some careful planning and help from some guildmates)....which would naturally be preparing me for the ultimate grind....Jedi.
I do hope to get a little taste of Rangerhood before I move on (I did the same with Combat Medic), and it seems like a fun profession (outside of grinding the camping tree).
Anyhow....just wanted to share.
First off, this isn't a new idea, but a common one (especially for grinding). Although I didn't use it, I'm sure it goes quick. Secondly, I have problem personally with Ranger grinders, because I don't feel they take away from our proffession much. Being a Ranger nowadays is not really about skills. It's about an attitude. That's why I myself am avoiding the holo grind until I get bored with Ranger or Rifleman and then I can play around with some of the other fun proffessions.

Grinding ranger is such a foreign concept to me that i'm still not a master, and i started swg on day 1 (err 2?)
My Christmas holocron is sitting patiently in my safety deposit box for the day when i do get bored with it.
I'm glad you found a way to grind this stuff but i don't think too many of the non-holo ranger types need to know, perhaps another forum (jedi or scout maybe?) would be better for this ![]()
Good luck with the holocron thing

Well....just wanted to share....if this was the wrong forum I apologize. I am personally attached to Smuggler (have been since day one...which is why i have been a master smuggler twice...and will be doing it a third time post unlocking). I decided on New Years Eve that I would begin to pursure the Jedi path (after giving up on it because I hate grinding and was very attached to the TKM\Master Smuggler combo). I am a big fan of sharing information (of the leagal type...not exploit type...that stuff goes to SOE) and thought what I had done would be useful to other Ranger hopefuls (holo grinding or not). Being a TKM\Master Smugglerfor 4 months (nothing to do with holo's) I know what it means to be dedicated to a way of playing\profession...and I also did not have a high opinion of those who power leveled because TKM became the flavor of the month (I actually learned how to play the profession because I loved it ..just like I love smuggler). Because I decided I wanted to become a Jedi (unlock my slot)....I had to become a grinder...as its the only way to do it. I figured there were be a few who would not like me sharing this information on this board...considering I have seen the same reaction on other profession boards (including TKA)....but again....I don't like to hoard my info..I share it.....its just another method for reaching an end goal. Some like to smell the roses along the way...some don't. Those that don't generally are the holo grinders....their (our) goals are different. Anyhow....I really do believe I understand some object to my post. I'll be sure to pick a better forum for this type of info next time.
Like i said, glad you found a grinding method that works for you, and i too always appreciate the sharing of info thing. I was just trying to explain the mindset you find in this forum, didn't mean to make you think anyone would actually be offended, sorry about that
The holocron grinding people would definitely want to know about the /maskscent thing, so i was trying to send you to where those people are more likely to read your thoughts on that.
Since you love smuggler so much (as much as i love the ranger thing i think), here's to hoping your next holocron sends you back to slicing ![]()
Good luck with whatever the force sends you off to do next..
It's sad to see people getting pissed off about this.
Can someone tell me why everyone gets offended with holo-grinders? They aren't the ones that invented the system, they're playing by the rules. It seriously isn't any players fault that the system is stupid.
You're right this isn't a new method, but atleast he shared it. I'm sure there's tons of people out there that don't even do that much. And there will be tons more in here asking what's the fastest....question.
Ranger was a stepping stone for him. Leave it at that. We're supposed to be a profession that most(Antarian Group)of us wish was designed to help the Jedi, well how can we help them if we're bashing all the people that are trying to become Jedi?

No one said its his fault. But accepting grinding condones the process... which I for one will not do.
And questing to be a Jedi does not buy you THIS Ranger's allegiance. That is earned, not given.
But accepting grinding condones the process... which I for one will not do.

Unfortunately, it's the only way to become Jedi that we know. So you have a choice do or do not. I for one would probably find it more enjoyable to just go through all 32 professions and not worry about the holos. Only then would you truly appreciate what everyone else works so hard for in a given profession.
As for grinding? It doesn't interest me. At the rate I'm going in wilderness survival, I'll be Master Ranger by June.
Remember, for non-holo chasers, the Ranger end game isn't great.. so it's the journey most of us enjoy.
good luck on your journey to jedi.. and chances are good you'll find safe haven with rangers when you get there.. we're a mostly agreeable bunch.

eve, don't worry about it.. i'm in the same boat as you.. doing ranger for my holo.. sure i do like the profession.. and I'm sure it is a fun one to play full time.. but currently I'm looking to play a jedi.. and since my holo said ranger.. thats what i'm doing.. as quicly as possible (because graduate school starts for me in 2 months) so I appreciate the hints that you and all the other grinders have provided .. because I am on a time frame. I wish we didn't have to grind profession to open the slot.. i don't like the idea of it.. because my beloved profession (architect) has people ruining it all the time via holo grinders.. so .. i understand how the rangers feel.. but don't blame us.. we didn't make the rules.

thanks for the one star....guess that is what I get for trying to share something (which is not an exploit by the way). geez.
Don't take it personal. I just think most Rangers are far removed from Holo-grind and we like to keep it that way.
To me, this is the problem with holos.. and it's the reason I got frustrated with holos on my two toons. I like the idea of being a jedi.. but I love my ranger being supported by a crafter/medic. It just makes good sense to me. Along come the holos, and whamo.. the ranger needs to learn how to apply makeup and change body types.. and my crafter/medic needs to learn how to be a master bounty hunter. Grrr..
I'm very glad you found a way to get through the grind, and good luck in your pursuit of the elusive FSCS. I'm going to ignore the SOE grind mandate and when I feel the desire to roleplay a jedi, I'll stick with KOTOR. ![]()
