Thread: Hmm could this work?

Hi all, as some of you may have read I've recently mastered ranger and been working on fencer.

It's not much fun! I'm having a real headache managing HAM, trying to find ONE decent weaponsmith or armoursmith on my server and worst of all having to run around for ages looking for a master doc to buff me at the start of every play session. I've been looking for a good set of ubese on my server for about a month now, I've visited over 100 shops on 4 planets (nearly all completely out of stock). I've even shouted in coronet and offered to pay 20k for a location whereI can get some, and sent countless unanswered emails and tells to the few master armoursmiths. Yes it really is that bad on Chimaera.

So I'm at creature handler 3113 right now. I was wondering if it's feasable to give up all combat skills and just use pets to fight for me? Has anyone tried this? What kind of mobs can your pets kill? I can currently use a graul (lvl 30) as my toughest pet, he can take out a lot of things but he also gets messed up in the process and it costs me about 10 minusing pet stims to heal him up from incap. I figured if I master CH ranger complements it nicely buuut, it leaves virtually no skill points to use a weapon.

BTW the fencer forum isn't bad, but nowhere near as friendly and helpful as this one, which is why I ask a lot here

Do you mean literally no combat skills at all? Not even novice? Interesting idea..I can imagine it would work if you were mostly in groups otherwise you would spend an insane amount of money on stims for your pets all the time. In groups at least, the damage inflicted would be shared, sparing you and your pets some damage. Since the AI is supposedly being adapted to attack both the pet and its owner and not just the pet anymore, no combat skills would leave you pretty defenseless unless you were in a group. If you try it, let us know how it goes, I could be wrong

I've often wondered how it would be to play a master Ranger and master Squad Leader, with just minimal marksman abilities. You'd focus all your energies on coordinating the group, making sure everything goes well, and you'd throw lots and lots of traps. It might actually be a neat way to go. Sort of like playing an enchanter or a non-combat bard in EverQuest.

You would get ate up by a mob of durnis who would run past your creatureand nibble you to death. Or gubbers. Or rasps. Or vrelts, or whatever low level massive mob happens to live on your planet.

Not a bright move.

Try ranged weapons, you seldom need buffs or armor when hunting, as you can -

RUN THE HELL AWAY FROM THE BEASTS INSTEAD OF RUNNING AT THEM and still do damage to them. (Caps mine to drive home a point)

Why someone brings a pointy metal stick to a freaking gunfight still amazes me. To each his own I guess.

Don't talk TK either, I shoot and scoot them too, they hate me and die a lot chasing me. Least I quit doing the "Woob woob" noise to annoy them more

Aye, only the less bright meleers rush headlong into a battle against a ranged opponent.

Now give me a town with a lot of corners andside streets, and I'll bust some heads before they take me down.

I dissagree JB,
I'm Master Ranger and Master CH with only unarmed 4. I have enough points to get to the 3rd tier in TK (one tree).

The only time I get agro is when I group with other pc's other than that I got mask scent up or camo and I rarely get hit (when I draw mele agro).

So far as to what I can kill. I can solo Bull Rancor's, Anciant Graul's ect. pre nerf I've done Fnpc's.

I'm not the most aggresive hunter going. I dont realy take harvesting contracts. I mostly sneak around and look for beasties with the ocational fight to stay in shape.

I dunno
Works for me

Detrix, I see your point.

But sometimes you get stuck between a rock and a hard place. You meet something unexpectedly and can't call your pets. Or your best pet is about worthless as the mob is resistant to it's attacks.

It's for those reasons I like ranged attacks. At worst, I haul azz flinging shots over my shoulder while I run screaming off into the sunset, or sunrise. At best, I fling traps, bleed and scoot and end up winning.

Pets are nice, but I have seen too many get stupid, run off, or get lost. Then where are ya?

Yeah, the sheer danger of being caught off guard without a pet or the "strategy" of "throw a pet at them and hope you live" is a bit silly. Dropped all my CH for Pistoleer. I now feel quite godly and not like a Nerf Herder screaming "kill" at anything that attacks me in hopes I can /burst away.

Plus, pistoleer gives you really neat looking dodges. Way way way cooler than our /ar animation... which looks like an air force guy trying to salute in all honesty.

Heh
I dropped Pitoleer for Ranger upon mastering scout. Let it go box at a time as I filled Ranger.

I guess it realy depends on play style and who you hunt with. I failed to mention my hunting partner (wife) is a CM/carboneer.
