Thread: Advice Needed MBE/MCH considering dropping MCH for Master Ranger?

I am currently MBE/MCH/Ranger0030. My idea when creating my character (long before the BE pet patch) was to find the best critters, make the best critters and use the best critters. However, because I lack any and all combat skills I rarely go hunting. As such my wonderful critters sit in my datapad, unused.

Finally, since I've been MCH/MBE for soooo long (months) and never use critters I'm starting to get a little bored with the MCH half. I do, however, enjoy running around and examining creatures and obviously tracking rules as a MBE.

So, my question is....do those of you who've already mastered ranger think it's worth dropping MCH for? Are traps useful in groups/practical to make? Do you think a Master Ranger offers enough to a group to make it an attractive addition even though I'd still have no combat skills? Lol.

Any advice or other ramblings would be appreciated.

At this time it kind of matters who you're hunting with.

I'll give you some analysis on each ranger tree so you can make your own decision:

Wayfaring: Might be useful to you if you have problems with creatures aggroing when you tame them, otherwise it allows you to crawl fast.

Frontiering: This depends on your group. Most of the time, and I'm sure most rangers here will agree with me, my camps are only used for calling bikes/pets.

Tracking: If you want to harvest some more resources off the kill, and be able to track creatures down (and by track I mean find them if they're within 500m of you already) then this might be the only useful tree for you. Rescue doesn't work anyway, but you wouldn't want to use it with no combat skills especially.

Trapping: Nope. Don't waste points here. The only trap thats useful AT ALL is the phecnacine dart. I stopped using them a long time ago, but occasionally use them when soloing. But wait, you can get phecnacine dart at the scout level.

Master Ranger: You can make dath camo kits, and .. get some bonus points to your other sub-par skills. Oh, did I mention maskscent works better then /conceal?

Sorry to be cynical but I've been feeling pretty useless lately. I have high hopes for ranger in the future, but right now I don't see it helping you that much. I think you'd be better off getting however much med use it is you need for pet stims.

Do not....I say again....do not drop MCH for Ranger. I am a MCH, Master Ranger, and a dab of Rifleman. If it wasnt for MCH, and my dab of rifle I would be useless. So, to sum it all up....Ranger is really a useless profession. Trust me, and dont make my mistake....stay far away from Ranger. Not to sound negative, but its just the truth.
