Hello all!
I recently reached novice ranger, and I'm looking forward to trying this profession. I dropped carbineer and still have MBH which I have thoroughly enjoyed. Reason I came to the ranger prof: I got a thrill out of hunting/tracking Jedi, and I thought maybe I would also enjoy hunting npcs.
I'm currently 0011, and I was wondering if there were any better creatures to trap (more xp/per hit). I have been doing torturs that have been giving me 250-285 per trap hit, and I KNOW there has to be better animals to trap out there. Or at least I think so.
I've read the stickies on the Ranger profession, and it was very helpful. Any other hints/suggestions?
I need to change my sig. haha

Welcome. Please relax and enjoy your climb through Ranger. Don't grind it, just take it nice and slow.
Remember, you will get the same amount of xp for all of the traps. You don't have to use the Ranger traps to get good xp, it's arguable that the Scout traps are better. XP is determined by the CL of the creature, higher CL = higher xp.
Have fun... don't grind!

Trapping is easier if you go to Dath or Endor and do it. Just watch because you will aggro your targets. A favorite method of some is to ride up on their bikes, dismount, throw the trap, and get the heck away if they cant take the target.
Another method is to get buffed into good armor set yourself up as a tank and just stand in the middle of a group of rancors throwing traps. This ones a little more dangerous

Yes, I've found that the scout traps of 5 and 6 per craft use less resources and adhesive mesh only gets me 2 traps per craft.
CL - higher xp on traps? What is CL if you don't mind?
Oh, this is my 300th post!
Thanks for the welcome. Looking forward to the ranger community. Met a really cool ranger in theed yesterday, and I hear you guys are GREAT!

CL is Creature Level. It's the difficulty rating of the creature. You will be able to see it when you /examine them.

Ok, ok.
I knew I heard it before and was just forgetting something simple. I've heard quenkers are good for trap xp per hit.
Any good ideas of creatures to trap? Any that you have as standbys or certain ones you did when you were a novice ranger? Any help would be appreciated.

If you're on Dantooine, try the Ancient Grauls. I think I was getting 400+ for each trap. Of course, I haven't seen any grauls for a couple of weeks. Maybe that's why I've slowed my playing down and have gotten bored with the game.

Will do. Thanks!
Are they only available as random spawns or can you get them as a mission?

Hi Kith,
I see you're from Kauri? Maybe we'll run into each other some time.
As for trapping, Rancors give a lot of XP. For that, or anything, the best method is to throw a Wire Mesh trap and then throw repeated glow wire traps until the creature begins to move again... then repeat.
Just make sure you craft your own traps rather than buy them, as you'll miss out on gaining hard to get survival XP.

Oh, I forgot to mention RIN (if you don't count the mention in my sig)
If you need training or help, I'm sure you'll find some rangers in there. It's quiet sometimes, but most lurk until someone speaks up. And if you ever discover a new shift of good resources, please mention in it RIN for the benefit of the rangers and crafters in there. And obviously, it's a good place to hang out if you're looking to hunt or sell resources.

/agree Grinding isn't fun. But dying many times and finally killing what killed you as you level is such a great feeling. Good luck!!!
