Thread: Would it really be that hard to give Rangers a little bit of love in the CU?
Who knows? Only the devs and they arent talking. So keep reading the CU thread thats 7 pages long and keep the faith alive

Maybe, most likely not im afriad. What attraction is there to group with a less combat viable player? What role would rangers actually have in a group other than being a dead weight. I cant see camo getting a fix anytime soon and even then most people dont have an issue with controlling agro because they are on bikes.
This issue of Ranger Cammo being less effective than just riding through the masses is something that really will require attention. As it stands, if bikes were not as easy to ride around on it would bump the importance of cammo a bit, but because its inconsistent and breaks often it is obviously still not terribly helpful you're right.
Moving on from that, the fact that soloability (a word?) will be less common and much harder to do after the CU means that the person who goes out to hunt 1000's of the same creature over and over in a very monotonous pattern (hunters) will be less likely to find a group willing to stay out for hours hunting at a time. We may not be able to kill creatures as fast as we do now, therefore combat skills will play a very important factor in taking down a creature, something of which we dont have alot of.
This is a problem I really hadn't thought of yet. Obviously many groups aren't terribly interested in spending hours out in the field harvesting. If they were, we wouldn't be the only ones out there doing it.Most players are much more interested inNPC camps (because they fall faster) and shooting into space for some looting and havok making. Rangers are left as the only ones who really HAVE to take missions for creatures, unless people are grinding that is. Of course players who are dedicated to grinding tend to be more interested in speed, so even then our stealthy tactful moves to take down creatures aren't very appealing.
To be quiet honest i wouldnt want to group with a ranger in our current form if there were other options and i wasa none ranger. This issimply because we do nothing but tag along in group atm.Groups dont need traps becausethey have other combat skills that do what our traps do, they dontwant a person who can camo you over a person holding a weapon, they need firepower and ways to control theenemyand sadlywe dont have much of that at all.
All i can see is that combat will be evolved in a way that will eventually aid the ranger once he/she gets the ranger revamp. This will ofcourse be some time after the CU hits and is dependant on what direction the devs want us to go in (/pray for recon roles)
I think ultimately we're stuck having to sit back and wait. With the CU being the main focus these days all we can do is hope to play and try to feel out a way that we can get more involved. I think its safe to assume that we won't be the first profession to recieve an overhaul after the CU goes live. This gives us the advantage of really thuroughly playing the Ranger role and seeing how far we think we can intigrate ourselves into the new system.
As Calc has stated, and others have echoed, we don't want to get lumped into the CU because we're looking for alot more than small fixes to the profession. If traps get a full overhaul I think there will be less of a push to overhaul camping, tracking, harvesting, foraging etc.
For now I think we just need to concentrate on pushing forward some good ideas, like Owen's new Recon Proposal as well as our old favorites and see how strong we can make them so that their ready when the Dev's come a knocking.
