Thread: The Future of Terrain Negotiation?

We've often complained that Terrain Negotiation isn't beneficial to the majority of Rangers. According to its current description it is just bonus to crawl speed.
If we could change the implementation of TN at higher levels what would you like to see it turned into?
My first thought would be to bump it into a group modifier, but as SLs get the group TN bonus that's a bit out of the question. My next thought would be to maybe apply it directly to Mounted (creature and vehicular) movement.
Any thoughts?

Even better burst run and fast swim come to mind. I wouldn't mind just a faster run speed in general either. This would give us a slight edge in kiting (or catching kiters) in both PvE and PvP. I like the mount thing too - if I know the best way to get up hills fast I should be able to guide my mount on those paths as well.

I would turn TN into a bonus to an ability that lets us runfaster indefinatlywhen activated,whilst giving us a damage multiplyer (pathfinding).
Basically you get pathfinding at novice and as you get more TN this counts to how much speed increase you get up to the max pathfind speed (just below burst run maybe?). So for instance TN up to 50 lets you run up hills without a slow down, over 50 makes your pathfinding ability better.
It would give a use for it whilst not actually revamping the mod. You would just add a new skill based on it.

Oh to be more clearer. You would take more damage from hits (like twice as much) and wouldnt be able to attack back whilst in pathfind mode.
Just incase some of you where thinking i was suggesting a offensive damage multiplyer and faster running speed

It would be cool if they both doubled the time it lasts and reduces the recovery time at Master level atleast. Applying to your mount would be way too cool but not likely to happen.

I can't see how our ability can translate into a vehicle capability. Maybe a mount.
I would like to see extended burst run time, with shorter downtime. I like burstswim. Maybe combine the two, so our burst run doesn't stop at water's edge.

I like the pathfind idea. We get a skill that sort of would be like force run--we can keep moving quickly indefinately but it negatively affects our combat ability while doing so. Maybe we take extra damage, maybe our damage is reduced, maybe we can't even respond to an attack. But we move quickly and it won't affect our concealment abilities as much as riding a speeder would (I don't see stealth on a bike as a very good idea but burst run speed while stealthed seems reasonable). And it might let me keep up with my group while using /retreat
. Maybe make the speed dependent on your terrain negotiation mod (although you have to be careful of the Ranger/SL--+155 TN
)?
Also, it would be nice to get a movement increase while swimming. I can run up cliffs with no trouble but a little stream slows me to a crawl.

yeah it would be cool to run faster, that way i could keep my rifle out all the time, but don't take away fast crawl, i use it way too much as master rifleman, it beats haveing to stand to move up a few meters when a critter walk just out of range, plus its great to fast crawl around ppl

I lean towards a faster running speed not even burst just standard. And it going into beasty TN. That way a master ranger could have a Bantha named Bullet
