Thread: Position of Traps in Inventory
arriviste, really sorry to hijack this thread... but...
ESS has a really nice website... wow...
at F12, I have a little macro that takes me to the 2nd toolbar. In that are all of my Ranger skills. With a hit of a key, I switch from combat to ranger and thats where I have my traps, I also keep my traps in my backpack, it seems to fit better there anyway, saving room in my primary storage.

No worries, kago,
The site design is by ESS Portall Zaine -- dude's been swamped at work and has a dying/dead computer at home. I'm really looking forward to seeing it completed, once he digs out of his work.ESS Boxx Goto is the "videographer."Both invest lots of time outside of the game to promote thePA -- compliments areappreciated.
AND I'm still peeved about inventory and traps.
It is a nice site. But do you mind my asking why you bother with traps? I usually keep 3 stacks in my inventory (glow wire, adhesive mesh, and phenacine dart). And even those never get used (unless I'm actually trying to use them for no good reason). If I'm ever bothering to throw traps, it's usually because a lower level friend is trying to get xp. Anything I'm fighting either dies too quickly or refuses to get hit. But, to get back on topic, have you considered a new droid? If you mainly use one trap type, the new droid might be a useful tool for you. You can stack alot more traps in it than a normal stack of traps and it keeps you from getting delayed when attacking. But it only works for one type of trap.

The problem he is referring to is that traps can no longer be thrown from a backpack (I think). So you would be affected by the same problem. I'm just surprised so many people hotkey the Ranger skills. For tracking, I just type /ar. For harvesting, I have a loot macro on my combat toolbar. For traps, I only throw them when I have nothing better to do (so they just sit in my inventory and I double click). Same with camps. And typing /mask or /conceal is not that much trouble. I used to have a Ranger toolbar but found that I never used it. When a weird bug decided to delete my hotkey setup, I didn't bother to make the Ranger one again.

When used in certain order for certain situations, I find traps useful. I know, I must be the only person who enjoys and uses trapping.
I will be getting a new droid soon (courtesy of a Master DE real-life pal), but I won't always have the droid out. And I don't limit myself to one type of trap. I want my eleven inventory slots back in the top of my pack. Waaaha!

Yes, the point of my griping is that traps have to reside in the top layer of the inventory and can no longer be thrown from a pack within one's inventory.
Re: Hotkeys
I keep a bar of hotkeystrapping. I have a few different macros to toss traps in a particular order, depending upon the circumstances. My weapon toolbars have a hotkey going back to the trapping toolbar, and vice-versa. I have macros to change from armored to bio-clothed in one keypress. I have another macro for hopping off my mount, masking scent, and getting back on the mount. Same for dismount / areatrack / mount.
These are just a few examples of what I find convenient. All of these hotkeys are accessible via the Microsoft SideWinderStrategic Commander device I use. Many of my common tasks (e.g. loot & harvest a particular resource type) are also bound to NUMPAD hotkeys. I find this enhances my gameplay experience. I love to type commands -- I also love to spare myself repetitive actions and save time.
I may be crotchety and grizzled, but I'm not phobic about convenience.

That was supposed tosay, "I keep a bar of hotkeys for trapping."
Groovy. I just got back from posting a reply to your "In Live" entry, TrancerKarn, when I saw your reply to this thread. Heh. My first foray into that area of the forums has left me feelin' blue and full of ire.
Upthis point, I've been the happiest Ranger on Urf. I think Rangers could use a li'l love (maybe a harvest boost and humanoid-foolin' skills), but I've been very satisfied with my "talents."

I brought this up in a thread on the "In Live" forums and nobody has yet said anything to it. I find it to be a big pain. I too "nest" my traps into a bag. I have a satchel in fact I named and use just for traps and it's a rare hunt that I don't have it full before heading out.
I have not had the time to log in and run to an indoor area yet and try traps to see if that was fixed as the patch notes say. But it seems a safe assumption that in fixing that they "broke" where traps can be in your inventory. Worth saying again it's a real pain to have all of your traps in your main inventory. Lots of other stuff (at least for me) that I need and access in there already.
As a side note I am floored by the people here who say they don't use traps. Maybe it's just a matter a playing the profession different but I stay in large part unscathed in fights because of traps. Sure I get introuble with them too, but those instances are far outweighed by the times they help. Adhesive Mesh, Phenoine (sp?), Glow-Wire,Flash Bombetc. I find them excellent tools.
Do people not use them becasue as I said above, playstyles? Or do folks find them useless? Tedious?
Just curious.
Oh...and I hope the Ranger correspondent can give use a heads up on whether the storing of traps is acknowledged as being broken and is being put on "the list".

As it is, I don't use traps because they hinder more often than they help. I have little trouble keeping a big Rancor or Kamurithoff of me while I kill it (unbuffed) but throwing a trap will just stop me from moving for a few seconds and let him catch up and one hit me. If the trap hits, it will help me. But, with seemingly less than 50% accuracy on the big stuff, I end up dying from the combat pause more often than I end up finding the creature easier to kill. With the new droids, I might find this a bit different, though.

I just noticed this tonight. Does anyone know what the reason behind this is? I don't understand why pullings traps out of my pack would be an unwanted feature. Hopefully this was unintentional and can be easily fixed.
