Yesterday, after recieving a freak accident buff (I swear), I decided I would stop trying to get rich and go adventuring like I had when I first started. I grabbed my T21 and some Ubese armor, and headed off to Tatooine to take on some Tuskens.
The fort was about as busy as it ever is, but I was having fun figuring out where the harder enemies spawned and whatnot, as it was my first time there (I never get out to Tatooine that often, Jabba always tries to get me). anyways, I am under the Fort, running back to where there should be a raider, commoner and sniper spawn, and I see a guy fighting all three with a sword. He has his novice swordsman tag up. I target him and see he's in a bad way- then he gets knocked down (by the commoner, believe it or not), and his health starts to decline dramatically despite the buff.
Then I noticed he had peaced them. Thinking I would try out my never before tested rescue ability, I had quickly drawn the three of them off of them. I don;t know even if it was rescue that did it, since I had always thought it worked only on animals, but regardless, after one shot to the commoner the three were on me.
I made quick work of them, and by the tiem Nocive Swordsman get undizzy and can stand I am finishing off the sniper. Then came the surprising part. He yells "Don't steal my kills, f4g!" Huh? I explained to him that he would have been incapacitated, and maybe slain. But he won't hear it. "Now I steal all your kills," He says to me. Even more surprising.
However, it was not to be so. The idiot had apparently left himself Spec Ops, and a Imperial Colonel killed him while he was fighting two commoners. By the time he could have rebuffed I was already logging out.
So there you have it- the problem with the rescue command is not when it doesn't work, but when it does.

Just remember his name. Next time he's pounding on a Mauler or something equally tough, and his buffs run out and he gets incapped/DB, just remember to /jump up and down on his lifeless corpse /bellowing "Look, now you're dead, I'm going to steal this kill too!"
I never use rescue, except on other rangers in distress, because as you've seen, it causes more trouble than it's worth most of the time

Had that same problem when I went Ranger the first time!!!!
I just decided that unless it was a guildmate, fellow city citizen, or they asked for help, they didn't deserve me to use Rescue on them.

Unless you're an exceptionally pretty blue twi'lek you couldn't afford to get me to use /rescue on you. I don't care if you're rich, a Ranger or offering me a lifetime supply of Jibrovian Google Juice, by the time I explain to you that you need to peace, and that means STOP HITTING THE FREAKING THING and spam /peace till your finger bleeds, and then once the critters aggro on me fill yourself with stims as fast as you can and GET BACK IN THE FIGHT before I die badly.
I had it macroed at one point, including both spatial and /tell messages but for the most part the eejits were reading the msgs in the cloner, by which time it was my fault for not rescuing them faster.

In group I will always rescue the Master Doc/Master CM.
Use the rescue macro.

LOL, I went there again today and it appears that he is a regular. I saw him getting *owned* by a warlord- and suddenly forgot hwo to use my medic skills. Alas, he had friends with him.
But I have learned my lesson- I will, from now on, only help endagered newbs. I made a macro- "I am attempting to rescue you! Please type /peace or click the peace button below the combat que, and then run!" It seems simple enough- but reminds me of docs in Corronet :-/

call me crazy, but i'm a firm believer in rescue (though i haven't had the problems mentioned here, thankfully). i've used it on guildmates, fellow rangers, and the random n00b who happens to wander into the nightsister stronghold. i figure, if i die, no worries...i just clone and do it all over again. i get satisfaction out of helping people out. aw.

Agree. I recently dropped the tapping line and noticed that I indeed missed the skill. I will be climbing that tree again this week, so I'm looking forward to having /rescue back in my repetoire.
That experience you had sucks. What he should have said was "Oh, well in that case, thanks for trying to help. I'm ok though, so no need to worry about me in the future. /target you, /tip 5000000"

I've used it to save many a person on Dathomir. For some reason, a lot of people seem to lose connection there, and I get messages like 5 minutes later (since I send them a tell to inform them they shouldn't log off in the wilderness so a Ranger has to come save their fanny) thanking me. Though Taunt has always seemed to work better (also great for stopping those animals that run away when their life gets low)

I have used rescue to help others, but I have never used it without permission unless it is a friend, another ranger, or guild mate. If they reply they would like help then I immediately intervene. I just never assume that other players outside of the one's mentioned above will appriciate it if they don't really realize they need it, or if they do, if they really want it.
