I would like to hear the pro's and con's if you folk would be so kind as to share your secrets with me

I really appreciate it

Thanks

A biggie right now is MR, MBH, and SL 0-3-0-0 (and is my current). This give you pretty good defense, but is lacking on the weapon accuracy and speed mods. I like critical shot (from BH) and when used with a pistol, it can be quite handy against enemies (it gives you fairly high damage fairly quickly). BH also has a ranged KD. Those two are basically my only attacks; I am a minimalist .

I have a master ranger/master rifleman and its good but if the current proposed changes go through, this template will be completely useless.

Well, the idea is, I'm sure, that just as the devs "don't want to force interaction" by taking BF out of the game and making enertainers useless, they also want to FORCE grouping on riflemen by making it impossilbe for them to do damage if due to a bug or something else happening some creature notices you and charges you and then starts mauling you to death and your rifle is rendered useless except as a blunt instrument.

NEVER expect these guys to be consistent in their logic. It will only make your head hurt.

The rifle minimum range was shot down during the CURB Alpha, and many of the testers, especially those who use rifles, took it as a sort of personal victory of common sense. I mean...if rifles have minimum range, how will they operate in dungeons? Why should they be the only profession that can't use their weapons indoors? It's an artificial and stupid gate that was shot down by the majority of people in the Alpha. The fact that they're thinking about it again only goes to prove that there should always be an "alpha" forum going, where the top minds in each profession are able to interact with the developers to discuss foolhearty ideas like this. Make it so it rotates bi-weekly, and each person is chosen by the corr

but yeah...rifle minimum range- it wasn't fun for the developers when they were testing it, and based on feedback from people, they realized how silly the idea sounded. Now, they're thinking about it again. It's like a dog that refuses to be house-trained. Now I gotta go find the newspaper and whack 'em on the nose again.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

So where do you find this infromation and where can i find out what they are proposing....

Also if rifleman is possibly getting the nerf... are there other professions that mesh welll with ranger... I know that they dont have much for defenses so I didnt think that a melee class would mesh well.. perhaps i am mistaken.

I would just like to hear what you guys think

Ranger goes well with any thing. I do TKM, love it. I can solo lvl 82-83 missions my trapspulling one critter at a time, to the spot of my choseing, TK damage is kinda low, so it takes me longer than any other profession, but I do it. I use all my Ranger skills to stay alive, TN for when a fight goes wrong, allways have an exit toward a mountain. Camo, just works wonders if use correctly.

It's really all good for a Ranger, just what you perfer.

I know it got shot down in alpha, for a damn good reason too, it sucked. Now sniper shot has a 20m min on it meaning we can no longer use it in dungeons and from the sound of it more min ranges are heading our way.

Pistoleer is a fun profession. So is BH.

From a role-playing standpoint, Master Ranger/Master Rifleman is the perfect pair, as if you were doing big-game hunting in real life, you'd bring a rifle, not an oversized sledgehammer or a sword.

but luckily, Ranger can work well with any combat profession. so play around with different ones, and find what you like. personally, i love pistols. i have a friend that swears by Carbines, and a few friends who will never drop their rifles. i also know someone who will never do any combat prof but pikeman. so it's basically just personal preference.

Overall, I'd say that ranged professions work best with ranger, simply because a ranger using ranger skills is going to use root/snare to lock a critter down and then use a ranged skill to do damage.

I suppose there are folks using melee elites with ranger, but it seems to me to be a natural for ranged.

WHATEVER YOU DO, though, don't try to be an MCH/Master Ranger. It's a great concept, but given the low damage output of most critters nowadays, it will take a while to take out elite critters and high end critters, and I doubt if your critter can outlast most of them.

Depends on your playstyle. I was a TKM for many months last year, and I enjoyed it. But I wanted something with more of star wars feel to it (blaster!), so I took up rifleman. Also a great profession. But I missed the up close and personal fighting from TKM, so I mastered pistols. And that was loads of fun, my favorite prof so far. Post-cu, though, I didn't feel like I was doing enough damage, so I tried carbines, then rifles again, then MBH. I finally settled on Master Ranger, Pistolier 4/0/0/4, BH 0/4/3/0. With this template, I'm CL80, have 80 pistol speed, around 145 melee and ranged defense. My accuracy is low (like 120 or something), but I don't seem to be missing any more than I did with higher accuracy. I also have some good specials-- improved critical, improved stopping, improved underhand, improved body shot, warning shot, and a couple others. Improved crit and body are my main attacks, and with my featherweight FWG5 made with a 150 damage, -.69 speed gorax shard I looted, I do pretty well. Between my KD attack, stopping shot, and traps, I can handle just about anything. Having only one elite mastery limits my armor choices, but I like battle armor anyway. Good luck with whatever path you take.
