Thread: Anyone else concerned with implementation on Test?

Moving this to its own thread, because I at least think it's important... Interested in other thoughts.

With the notes I saw from Test Center, I'm most concerned about the camps costing more to make.

A HTFB already costs 30 (or 35, can't remember and servers are down ) polymer and 55 steel. You are already forced to be an Artisan to even be able to make Field Base and HTFB. I had to make sure that I surveyed every second I was camping to be able to keep up with this.

If it's hides and bones, then fine... we can get those. But asking us to use more polymer and steel is ridiculous. Unless they are artificially forcing us to be subject to the same price gouging that crafters take on resources (which I'm sure is the intent).

On the one hand, I'm so glad that I'm done with Frontiering, especially due to this. On the other hand, I'm sorry I couldn't capitalize on the thousands of camps and traps I crafted to get survival xp. Actually, since they added new ways to get xp, AND are increasing the xp cost of skills, it probably balances out.

I'm very cynical, but it appears that they gave us a bone, but it tastes so bad that we throw up before it is even digested and they get their bone back.

SoE is famous for the we giveth and we taketh away. Wise you are to be cynical! They are giving us alot, which I believe is owed, not a favor. At the same time they threw in some lame crap like increasing our xp requirements. Why?? Scout xp already sucks.

I'll judge the day I see/test it myself. It's a big freakin tent we build and if you look at some of the small traps that require a lot of resources it's amazing we can build such a camp with so little resources.

Yeah, I see your point. It *is* a big camp.

Well, like I said, I'm just glad I made it to Frontiersman before this happens. With all the xp required for this line, that is a TON of camps and TONS and TONS of resources... Once again, SOE makes it harder to get in on the ground floor for newcomers.

I have no problem with these camps being more expensive to make, it will force players to only use them when they are really needed. About the polymer/metal requirements - really isn't a problem i buy the materials off the bazaar once in a while - you can usually get 2k steel for 5k credits - the same goes for polymer - if you shop around you can get it even for less. 2k steel/polymer can keep me going for a week at least - and thatsfor 10k credits - not that big a problem since any player can make 10k in an hour - heck i can get that in 10 mins...

yeah, *shrug* credits aren't as easy to come by as they used to be, you have to admit.

Anyway, I guess another point of my concern is that these new *features* were not mentioned by the Devs... gave us the good news and then did this other stuff all stealthy-like, without a word.

Not concerned with this at all, 2 reason's why

1: inherent co dependency on other classes is good for game play

2: HTFB/fb makes crafting stations, Granted they are time limited crafting stations, but ask around for prices on Food/chem crafting stations and weapon/generic stations, 55 metal 35 polymer is well worth it for what you get.

Are you forced to pick up artisan to get your armor or weapons? clothing ? nope

I have harvesters that get me all of the metal/polymer i'll ever need (heavy harvesters). And what i do is i go to the bazaar with all the surplus (ALOT of surplus) resources and i sell em for real cheap (2cpu on metal/polymer) and it usually gets all bought up within a few hours, so i can turn a healthy profit from simply going and emptying out the hoppers and paying maintanence everyday, takes me maybe 30 minutes every day. And as for needing to be an artisan... says who? Just get a few small harvesters if you are in a bad way for some resources.

I do the same. Setup a couple of harvests and you'll have more than enough. You'll be selling all the extra with just2 harvestersyou have so the increase in resource neededis not a big deal

The problem is not that the camps require too many resources, since as some have noted the requirements do seem appropriate for something so large.

The problem is that both we and other players still tend to see the Field Base camps as quick, disposable things that our group will use for five or ten minutes and then discard, just like the scout camps. That is what needs to change, I believe. If the field bases were given enough functionality and features that we really treated them as field bases, i.e., had valid reasons to leave them up for a while, we wouldn't mind using 85 resources for one.

Well, how do we know the FB and HTFB are going to go up in cost significantly. The main reason for increasing the camp costs is because havested creature resources will be even easier to come by. Now, the FB and HTFB do *not* use harvested "creature" resources, so I can' see them becoming subject to any hugely significant change. But even if they are made more expensive, keep in mind, their value is going way up too because the repel dangerous critters thing is going to finally end up being fixed.
