Thread: Stalking Notification Bad Idea??? Hmmmm.....I think so!
appeared stating I was being Stalked. Not one of these so called "stalking" creatures ever attacked me. As I continued on my journey, I passed by a Rogue Fambaa. When I was approximately 40 meters PASSED the Fambaa he attacked me. Where was my stalking notification??? Guess Fambaa's dont stalk....they just open up an Immediate Can of Whoop Arse.
Personally I think the Stalking notification is T-TOTALLY USELESS, and should be removed. I really don't care if a creature is stalking me. How does that info in any way help me traverse the wild. For Example, say I was on Endor and I got the notification "You are being stalked by a Merek Harvester Toxic WookieKiller" what should I do??? Hmmmm....I know I will burst run to outrun my empending DOOM! After I sprint travelling at Cat-Like speed for 500M, I am finally pooped and slow down. Praise Vader!!! I am saved!!! I walk 10 more Meters and 4 Hanadak Ancients will spawn on topp of me and commence to Pummeling my Hairy Wookie butt. Boy I sure am glad that Stalking Feature was put in place to warn me!!!!
Who's idea was this anyways??? I don't remember reading anything about it in the State of the Profession, but of course I could have missed it. This feature is extremely annoying as well. Come on Dev's!! Fix the existing problems, before you throw us useless scraps at our feet to appease us.
Just my opinion I could be wrong.

I kinda like this message and would like to see it remain. I received it only 3 times in half a day of exploring on Dathomire.
I do see your point, but creatures on Dathomire are far and few between. The least they can do is give the option of disabling the message.
Nice post, I like your style. ![]()
However, I like the stalking notification. Here's how I used it today.
I was on Tatooine, taking bocatt missions. Bocatts are pretty notorious stalkers, for those of you who don't frequent the planet.
I would only get stalked when I had maskscent off. I would also only get stalked when I was within 64m of the critter. These might not be absolutes, just what I noticed today.
Since its just me, I only want to fight one bocatt at a time. So I would pull one bocatt away from his buddy by removing my maskscent and moving in until just one of them started stalking me. The messages made it perfectly obvious when the stalking started, so I could move back. It also made it perfectly clear when I was unhappily being stalked by both bocatts. When that happened, I was able to avoid them by putting maskscent back on and then moving back a bit.
Yes, I know thatyou can usually pull a single critter by attacking one from out of range, and waiting for its friend to come after you. However, that tactic has always seemed cheesy and buggy to me. This was much more fun and satisfying for me.
Yes, some creatures stalk and some don't, you can examine them to find out.
My understanding is that stalking means they are creeping up on you, trying to pounce you by surprise (they don't know us rangers can tell they're doing it) if you're running at a steady pace, then it won't keep up, and that'll be the end of it. but if you're not moving, it's handy...
I found it useful while on Endor, I had just finished fighting off a few nasty creatures and was healing myself, when I got a notification of a bloody dizzy whatchamacallit warlord stalking me ... (sorry, i forget the name) it's something like a level 50 though... I was in no condition to deal with it, so I hastily moved away, and was safe.
Is it really that much of acrisis to get some messages? If it made a loudsiren and flashed the screen different colors, then it would be annoying ![]()
Pamoya, that's a cool use for it! I might have to try that!
(DoI have to pay you royalties to use it? )
i do see how it is a useful ranger skill. a ranger *should* be able to tell when something is sneaking up on him or her, and this effectively does that, so i say keep it.
does anyone know if this works on npc's as well? or just wildlife?
"does anyone know if this works on npc's as well? or just wildlife?"
Good question... Are there humanoid stalkers?
- Most of the humanoids I run into, either start shooting from 64m out, or seem to wander randomly around their spawn point until you approach them.

Yeha, always strange when they add things we werent complaining about...
Don't know how this is gonna help us, but it's too early for me to judge i guess.
I was standing around 70m from a Rancor Rock Pile and talking to another ch. All of a sudden I get the Meessage. I was being stalked by a bull rancor. Threw on Camo and backed up a bit.
No problem he backed off. But if i did not get this message I would have been diseased and slain by that critter. So far I have found it very usefull.
I guess it epends on your play style.
Maybe they should make a way to enable or disable the message.
