Thread: Attacked while Camoed or scented...
I've been here since day one and ahave lived throught the many versions of Maskscent and now Camo.
One thing I have noticed is that they like to play with the "chances of being attacked if your Camo or maskscent breaks"
So, not having anything to reference it to, my question is as follows...
How does the chancefor being attacked when camo/scent breaks, compare with the chances of a regular player with no camo bonuses, etc. being attacked?
So in essence are we putting ourselves in unnecessary danger by playing with the attack/break scenario that comes along with the camo/scent abilities?
If so then I think that it needs to be addressed.
How has camo been working since the big update? Anyone?
I have found that the camo/maskscent was working pretty good the day of the patch, and the day after. If it broke, I was rarely aggroed because of the distance from the creatures. Initially I thought it was broken again, because the first time I applied it on Tatoonie it was broken almost immediately. I'll give you two guesses to what broke it........Wrong, it was dewbacks. The krettels broke it the second time almost 10 seconds later. Not a good start. It did get better, but it still breaks a lot more than I think it should.
After going to Endor and making some more kits (15 uses per), it was working pretty good. Very rarely would it break, and I had plenty of time to stop or change direction before I got attacked. The only other time it would break was after I was physically attacked in combat. I could shoot at creatures all day without itbreaking.
Today however, they updated camo/maskscent so that it will instantly break whenever ANY combat occurs. I tested this on Corella by 1-shot killing some durnies and butterflies. Everytime I fired, the maskscent would break. I diddn't mind it breaking after I took some damage, but if it is going to break everytime I fire a weapon I won't be using camo that often because of the resource costs involve.
The message "you are being stalked by XXX" is a nice feature. I used it several times to lure a creature away from the rest of the packsince it is a nice way to tell if the creature is still following you or not.

I had a Mutated Baznatch break my camo at 60m today. Did not attack but i figured I would just let you guys know.
Yesterday camo was working very well and I fell in love with using it. Today after the hotfix I have to say I am quite disapointed.
Yes, camo appeard to work fine on Thursday, but on Friday everytime combat occurs it breaks.
I don't mind it breaking when I am hit, but to break anytime I initiate combat, instead of the 3 free hits (might have been a timer of 20 seconds, not sure I use a T21)I got in before the animal attacked seems to be a bit odd. And the animal never broke it when he did attack back.
I was enjoying the Camo ability as I could sneak in and get a few good shots in on the animal of my choice, as long as it wasn't social, but now...
I agree camo has lost a lot of its appeal, if it is going to break anytime I attack. I can use Maskscent when just exploring, but I used camo to hunt. I will have to change my strategy if this is the way it is to be.
Good luck out there,
I don't understand the logig of camo "breaking", I know this isn't RL but lets look at it.
In RL, if I shot something would my grease paint fall off me? Or would my camo fall off if an animal saw me?
In game, what is the "danger" of a Ranger getting to keep his camo for a set duration regardless of his actions? Regardless if he gets detected?
Would we be too uber if our camo never broke?
I just don't feel any pressing need to apply my camo, but I use it on my friends to help them.
I use maskscent on myself and don't bother with camo.
Also it was kind of upsetting that they removed the flora component, not because I thought it was necessary, but because it shows a pattern of, if you don't like something, cry about it, and they will remove it.
Flora makes sense in camo, the method of gathering it just didn't, they should have made it forageable and that would have solved it. Or given us the option to "search" for flora and harvest it.
I still wonder if it is more detrimental to apply the camo/scent and then take a chance on rolling the dice on being attacked. Would I have been better off not applying it at all?
I agree. I think Camouflage, if not Mask Scent, should stay applied for a set duration (just as camps should).
Camo should only "break" for the NPC or creature, and social friends, that detects you.
It made sense that we were able to get in an extra shot or two while camouflaged.
Agree agree agree. I was fine with conceal and mask dropping when I was in melee, but any combat? It seems impossible now to pick a creature out of a herd without everything else (other species, people, etc) aggroing now, if they're aggresive.
I'd like to see conceal stay on for a set period. It's one of those things that sets us apart from the common scout, and makes us an elite class. Right now, it certainly isn't our trapping (which I know they're working on...), and terrain negotiation has very little use above scout, unless you want to crawl fast. Tracking is great, IMO. But please give us cammo back. I miss hunting.
