Thread: How does Master Ranger really differ from Master Scout
Hi first off i would like to say that i love being a Ranger i am just frustrated at the moment. From what i can tell Ranger is nothing more than slightly faster Scouts with larger tents that doesnt even shelter us from the rain. We get a food and chemical crafting station that is usless to us!!! Our traps might effect creatures but the never truly stop the creature for very long and dont even try using those traps on the truly dangerous creatures because it fails 9.5 times out of 10. Our conceal is just a better mask scent but doesnt conceal us when we need it (like while in combat). Our tracking is interesting but what good is it to track a Krayt dragon if we have no chance to sneak up, trap, and kill such a beast. Finding hunting party's that need a ranger are rare!!!! We are suppose to be self sufficient deadly character when in the confinds of out professin, but this is deffinetly not the case at all with Rangers. We need (first aid, ie meds from the earth). We need traps that stop creatures not just alert them of our location. We need attacks based on our skill level based on creatures weaknesses after all isnt that what a ranger is the most deadly tracker, killer of beast's with the ability to survive in the most harshest of enviornment, wuth the ability to live off the land, treating our OWN wounds.
I feel that this class is underdeveloped and i feel that with the help of all rangers we can assist the Devs with creating a Ranger class that is envied by other professions. Rangers should be needed for hunting parties period, not just a added bonus.
I will list some suggestions that i have for the proffesion i invite all rangers/scouts to do the same.
1. first aid (uses all items that we can forage) cannot heal other player or creatures just us.
2. traps (we should have traps that drop a creature for a good portion of combat, make our traps more complex let us use poison's and toxins) when a creature is stunned it should run away not at us!!!!!!
3. camps (stop the rain, add explorer terminals, crfting stations that rangers use, give us tents that people can go in!!!)
4. attacks (we should have bonuses for attacking creatures due to our knowledge of these beasts... it should be a large bonus make rangers deadly in combat with creature like commandos are deadly when fighting anything)
5. weapon (we should have a weapon that is designed for rangers other than the scout blaster)
once again i must state that i love this game and the ranger profession it just hurts to watch a commando go threw a nest of creatures without a challenge and a ranger who is suppose to be the expert in such battle get smoked by one of the same creatures.
PLEASE NO FLAMES ON THIS THREAD, LETS BE CONSTRUCTIVE AND HOPEFULLY THE DEV'S WILL READ IT AND HELP OUR LOVED PROFFESION.
THANKS

At the moment I will admit there only a couple advantages we have over Master Scout. Tracking is very important to me. I have also been finding the Camo Kits very usefull and I am now makeing them by the crate (All but LOK's ofcourse)
IF you dont like it or find the few working skills useful then drop it. This game is meant to be fun. If it is not, then change you charactor.
There has been alot of talk about Improved Traps coming soon and also new types of camps. If you dont mind waiting another month or two then hang in there.

Agree, agree, agree, agree....
1. If I can forage stuff I should be able to use it for something other than feeding a pet. Minor personal first aid uses...like eatingbugs (Fear factor time) heals 10 pts of health damage. Nothing major, just a small bennie.
2. The trap debate rages. Maybe someday we will get some that work or are static. Personally I want to be able to trap pets in PvP, or use them on people (not players tho that would be nice)in PvE. I can't tell ya the last time I used or even made a ranger trap...pdarts seem to be about all I use.
3. Camps are broken. Tho I do like the fact I can spend a load of FP and arm my HTFB if I am overt, which is about never. Let's get the ones we got working, and give us some choices on what can be added to them besides the faction stuff.
4. Bonuses in PvE. Wow, how true, a commando kills all sorts of stuff and walks away laffing. We sit there for 45 mins and get killed. While this sucks, why can't we get a better PvE animals only bonus?? Endless hours spent hunting/trapping/camping should increase our knowledge on how best to kill animals. No one shot kills, but maybe a bonus on damage as we know the places to aim for.
5. Weapons for Rangers. Um... the scout blaster is not for scouts only, it's just a name. We do need a nice, inoffensive to the other professions, Ranger only, weapon. The bow has been kicked around and seems like the best option. How tough can this be, they have a bowcaster, make it along those lines and give us 3 arrows (damage, DoT bleed and DoT poison) as we progress. Personally, I use an FWG5 most of the time.
Can't flame constructive ideas, and this letter is certainly not a whine (lol) I too get frustrated on seeing some clown barely able to hold a rifle witha pet ATST taking down hard red cons by his lonesome just cuz he chose the Imperial side. Oh well, back to harvesting and selling.

One of the main differences is that you get to read N'Raas's short, bulleted responses if you're a Master Ranger.
The Master Scouts are stuck with my long winded BS. ![]()

The thing is...you can't compare Elite profession mastery with a first tier master...
A manager at McDonalds v.s a manager at Microsoft... both managers but...
A first tier mastery is a first tier mastery
Does anyone truly believe there are people who stopped at master scout (and took no other skills outside of scout)
So there can not be a true Master Scout as it is obviously a stepping stone to other professions (for the most part, please dont flame on the exceptions because there always are)
Temporary buffs - This compares to a doctors stat buffs but would effect creature-to-hit, creature-damage, creature-defense, etc. bonuses. Having these buffs available would cause us to be in demand and would give us another way to make money. I don'tfeel this idea is too far fetched considering Doctors (use the same amount of skill points to reach mastery) are able to completely alter combat with thier buffs. Also, these buffs wouldn't infringe on any other profession (a point I feel is very important).
I'm also a big fan of the "poison" idea - A poison power-up we could apply to weapons to increase damage/apply a DOT/change damage type would give us another way to make money and make us to be in demand.
Since we aren't really considered a "combat" class, we need ways to help out combat classes and/or other non-combat classes. Otherwise we run the risk of being unwanted loners :-)
Good luck to everyone!
Couple of things..
With recent changes to food buffs, you can "heal" yourself. +100 health actually gives you the health and the maximum cap now, so it can be useful. I think foraged food does fill you up too fast, but an onion giving you 500 mind in a pop is still nice.
Although camps and traps leave something to be desired, they are being worked on at the moment... guess we will have to wait and see before we make any comments on that
Rangers do have bonuses to attack on animals
That's about it for now
