A question for you rangers with level 4 tracking- I want to be able to track players ( it's necessary to my RP character) But I was wondering... is it even that useful? What's the range on it? does it work well?

thanks a TON to whoever answers this

I've only been able to track people somewhere between 400m-450m. I dont know if it's because people weren't there, or that was the limit, but that was average for me with players and NPCs. Tonight I mastered ranger, so I figure I get an additional 3 to 4 meters of tracking ability. Y'know, keeping it proportional to all our other skill gains

Rangers offering directions?

"Take a left out of the spaceport, then go up. *looks at compass, tilts head, squints eyes* Yup. Up. Then go north a bit. Hang a right at the mission terminal and....you'll be as lost as I am"

As long as the player is outside, and by player I mean person player, not NPC, the max range is 500m. Actually tracking players is easy and areatrack seems to work best on this. Of course, should the player duck in a building, gone from areatrack.

I do it all the time. Scares the Imps to get hellos in tells from people 300 meters away - especially when I name the entire party.

I use it to help my PvPing friends track the enemy around Theed. By standing near Theed's cantina, I can usually keep people in range from the starport to near the palace.

one clarification to JBMat's response...

500m radius...therefore anyone in an area of 785398 square meter area. (using A=pi*radius^squared)

You're kidding, right? How much scrolling do youhave to do? Theed's cantina is full of AFK entertainers almost all the time.

- Zing! You've got milk!
- You start generating a lair. There's a Ranger 1000 m SE. You cannot place a lair that close to Ranger.

They are inside though this only works on people outside.

This truly is one of the reasons I stay ranger...

for the little things

tracking imperials, sending them tells, throwing sonic pulses on critters as I run by
