Camps poof at 51 minutes, more or less. Or at least they used to, no telling what the max is now. Some camps poof as soon as you toss them, while others stay up for a while.
As to the repelling aggros - It has always been hit or miss, leastways in my experience. I would pop camp and have aggros wander in and no fight; wander in and fight; or ignore me totally. Depends on some variable we haven't figured out yet.
And rancors are now a joke. I solo them regularly as I go to the village to trade in XP. Decent XP boost on the way out and in. Sometimes you get decent loot too. The best is getting the rancors to aggro the makloks, talk about fun to watch.

Is it possible that the camp timer is based on the quality of materials used?
I went to the krayt graveyard and saw
1 squad of stormtroopers
2 krayts
buku jawas
a dozen tuskens fighting it out. I didn't know who to root for.

A better question is, are camps usefull to rangers? Throw out the carfting station and replace it with a skinning/mounting station. mounting as in head mounts.

I was hunting on Dath for 3-4 hours building up my store of critter resources, and one of the other guild leaders brought a gaggle of low levels over to help them gain xp.
No problemo. I built some glow traps, made some camo for them (didn't seem to do much good, but then again it was Dath) and threw up a high-tech camp.
We happily tore through waves of rancors and exterminated Malklocs. I'd throw up a high-tech camp to restock on traps and let them rest up, take bathroom breaks, whatever.
Each time I threw up a camp there was a level 64-83 critter within 20m and they would not enter the camp. I went to the edge of the camp and looked at a Nightsister Rancor 6 meters away, with a gaggle of partying guildmembers a few meters behind me. Nothing. Didn't even glare at me. But after 5-6 minutes the hostiles outside of the camp would come tearing in, every time. After seeing this happen 4-5 times the only explanation I can think of is that camps do repel aggros, but for a limited time.
Oh, and what's up with camps having a duration before they go poof? After about 15 minutes they'd just disappear on us. I assume this is nothing new?

I have friends that would want me to get my ranger skillset back just to make them head mounts if that were the case. I am personally more of a proponate to the tactical commando style rnager but if we were just hunters that would be fine if the profession had little added benefits such as that.
