I am thinking of hanging up this toothpick and picking up Ranger once again. I was a MRanger way back when it all started but dropped it for an insane profession in which I believe is doomed. I would like to become more of a support role again. I loved the large camps you could see from 500 meters out! The noobs coming into the game just dont have a clue. I want to bring a bit of this back to them as well as myself. I used to sit in a camp and catch people on the run. They would stop by for a few minutes and we would enjoy a bit of conversation.

Do the camps still provide some protection from the aggro critters? Please excuse me..ive been away for quite some time.

What were the additions when CU hit? Good bad...it dont matter.

I am thinking of doing this and putting together regular hunts to take down some of the insane higher end spawns that are not being controlled at the moment.

I will be advertising on my server daily and in my forums (Tempest).

I believe this could be a great thing with the grouping requirments now. I believe we are one of the few professions that can step up and bring this all together once again. We can bring people back together. Most people see us as the middle guys...not alot of haters when it comes to the Rangers.

People will listen to us. We have the ability to bring back what was once lost. TRUE UNITY! If you have any kind of chit chat skills while in these camps it can be done. People like idle chat. People are thirsty for friendship...leadership. And I think we are the ones to bring it back to them...NO! Our communities.

I know this is long..but I feel positive in the roles of Rangers. I have seen the other side for some time now and I think Rangers could be the natural leaders/support to bring it all together. Please dont flame me. I have had enough negativity. I want to bring something positive back to the community and a great profession.

I agree with blacknights on this one.

Tonight i friend asked if would take him krayte hunting today. so we get camoed up and of we go to the graveyard and when we found the kraytes i found a poor little padawan struggling with an ancient krayte me and my bud jumped in to help him and using my traps i managed to root the krayte and we then got down to business with this krayte. At the end the padawan got his but pulled out the fire and my friend got his krayte hunting badge and some uber loot. we continued hunting kraytes and we all had a laugh. people say that rangers are useless at the mo but since i have been doing hunting trips they have all turned out great and my trapping and camp abilities have been highly usefull to my groups. u might say it was the group that made these hunts sucesfull but i know when the group atacked before i was ready with my traps the groups health would fall so fast i would have act fast to root the dragon so people could get away.

Dont discount rangers yet there some life left in this great profession of ours.

I feel where you're coming from my friend. too many times have I joined a group only to have everyone wait for me to get things started when hunting the critters in the wilderness. I think you coming back to being a Ranger would be a wise thing for you and your server. Atitudes like yours are hard to come by.

I appreciate all the positive feedback. I have already changed/moved into the Ranger profession again. Im not master YET..but I hope it wont take me long. I went out with a group last night (only a few minutes) and I had a blast. Was nice to be useful...not hated.

Just cos am trying to be helpful and positive today, I'll not make the obvious comment about frying pans and fires...

I would like to become more of a support role again. I loved the large camps you could see from 500 meters out!

500m? Pah! If you can't see an HTFB from at least 1.5km these days you need a better graphics card. They tweaked the graphics a couple of publishes back and it certainly made everything a lot 'prettier'. (I seem to remember a rather excited thread where a bunch of us were out taking screenies and oohihbg and aahing?)

The noobs coming into the game just dont have a clue. I want to bring a bit of this back to them as well as myself. I used to sit in a camp and catch people on the run. They would stop by for a few minutes and we would enjoy a bit of conversation.

Just a personal thing, but I don't like calling them 'noobs' as its become a term of abuse for a lot of "11!1!!1ONE!!! 1337 !21111one!!!1" type players.
If they're a new scout, novice will do, or greenhorn, tenderfoot... "Back in the day" I used to really enjoy hanging out in camps, just chatting to passers by, catching up on some darning or whatever. But as you no longer need Wilderness XP for the camping line, it's all scout XP these days, it seems a lot of players have lost any use for the camps.

Do the camps still provide some protection from the aggro critters? Please excuse me..ive been away for quite some time.

Apparently they never did repel critters, it was all just our imagination. Due to some imagined potential for griefing they're not looking to fix that either, which is a pity and another factor in people not bothering with camps much.

What were the additions when CU hit? Good bad...it dont matter.

Well, sticking purely to Ranger, we were not actually 'within the scope of the CU' and as such were not scheduled to get anything. An almighty row erupted, correspondents argued and bludgeoned the dev team with piles of stats and, with little good grace, we were given an increase in CL commensurate with other elite combat professions.

With that went a health boost taking a Master Ranger up to 2700 health and CL60 (compared to a Master Rifleman or other single combat elite who get 2460 health and CL54). The downside is that we recieve virtually no accuracy or offence/defence mods so taht, even with another combat profession mastered, we will take a pounding compared to a "properly spec'd" double combat master.

Not strictly CU, but other recent changes include the ability for all players to benefit from applying cammo to themselves, the mouseover info pop up on your radar, the big coloured blob that tells instatly what CL a target is...

I am thinking of doing this and putting together regular hunts to take down some of the insane higher end spawns that are not being controlled at the moment.

Despite all the 'negatives' I've mentioned above, the biggest and most powerful weapon most real Rangers have is the one between their ears. As you've already discussed in your post, it is possible for tactics and effective use of our limited abilitied to make a huge difference in PvE.

I hope nothing I said came over as flaming or unnecessarily negative (sky is falling style). As a profession we are very much battered and bruised, but its the spirit of Ranger that keeps us coming back for more. Dunno if thats masochism or plain dense headedness, but hey, we're still here.

Best of luck to you and all your hunts.
