Thread: Ranger Profession that's the most fun?
I don't know about anyone else but I'm really enjoying scout / ranger.
The camping requirements are lame but besides that hunting the abilities like camoflauge, mask scent, and the traps make exploration and hunting really cool.
It's fun to take down animals you couldn't possibly consider back when you were a newb. I remember when it took 10 weapons specialists to kill a ronto. Last night I took down two bull rontos simultaneously, solo. With the help of a few traps and darts, that is.
Once you mix it with a good combat arms skill Ranger is **edit** fun.
The only thing that drags is the time it takes for camping xp compared to the other skills.
Besides that, anyone else having a good time with their Ranger? I'm having a blast.

After trying a variety ofoptions, I agree.
Rangering gives the player interested in both fighting and exploring something to do other than just shooting and running back to the med center. Some of the traps are actually quite useful(making the Ranger the 'debuffing' and 'mezzer' class for creature hunting. The ability to make traps and camps gives the Ranger a taste of crafting without requiring them to sink as much effort into it as a full blow artisan. The ability to camp and heal wounds over time (while earning camping xp for it) allows the ranger to hang in the woods instead of running back to town all the time. The ability to forage gives nice small bumps to stats. The ability to harvest, especially at hire levels, gives the ranger a viable place in the economy. The ability to move fast while prone also sounds like it could be very cool in PvP.
A warrior type who has no scouting skill really is one dimensional compared with what the Ranger can do, unless said warrior is busy using other skill treeswhile he or she hunts (crafting stimpacks for example).
All this said, I think the ranger still needs some work to give it more 'pizzazz'. As is it might enjoy looking like the all out sexiest class, like someone else here said, but one a skill by skill basis it can seem quite dull if not viewed in the big picture of what one is able to do (that others cannot) while they hunt. Though it could be argued the other way, I think as is Ranger seems like a PhD degree in scouting more than its own special offshoot that has something truly unique compared to those that stop at master scouts.
I agree it's fun or I wouldn't be doing it.
I was originally going for bounty hunter...
Then I realized that at Master Scout, I was receiving HUGE amounts of XP directly towards Ranger. So I took novice for the heck of it. Then I became addicted to filling up all those little boxes because the XP was coming so easy. (because of Master Scouting skills). I hit trapping IV before wayfairing II.
I realized I was a scout for so long and I liked ita lot(and lets face it folks we are just Master Scouts with fancy tents) so I continued on. Terrain negotiation and cammo have helped too.
I am anxious to see if the update will help us become more useful.
I don't know if it's the most fun profession though...but I am having a lot of fun.
Kinda sad though that we would be a lot more useless to ourselves if we didn't have some of an Elite combat profession to help us kill our game.
It is probably the most logical profession considering ALL YOU SEEM TO DO in this game is shoot animals..
The most fun profesion to me would be a Bounty Hunter able to collect bounties on another player...
I would drop ranger in a heart beat.
Yes, being a Ranger is lots of fun...mostly because it allows those who really enjoy PvE critter stuff and exploring the worlds to do so. Most people involved as Rangers are likely going to be more laid back anyway as its not really a PvP skill. Once we get some stuff to help fully flesh out our profession, it should be an absolute blast.
Traps are probably the BEST thing about us. Being able to root/snare/debuff mobs is great.
Lecpanine dart (for melee/ranged debuff, I'm a CH also, so the Melee helps my pets), Health shot II, Health shot I, and let my pets beat on it. If things get too out of control, call the pets off, root it, and hang back.
The Survival EXP grind is hard for someone who primarily solos, but I'm almost there, another 55k til Master... hope this patch bumps up the exp gains from camps, it would help a LOT.
I'm having a blast though, wouldn't be doing it otherwise.
Although ranger still needs a lot of work. I'm enjoying the experience so far. I just love running up hills with no problems. Taking out big creatures by myself.. Exploring the world, and meeting cool people out in the wild. It makes for a very open character. I also enjoy the increased amounts of Hyde, bone and meat I get. I sell those organics at the bazaar and keep the high end stuff for my meds. I also like to survey.. So I'm quiet a jack of all trades and once I get my hi tech field base kit with my food/chem crafting station. I could possible spend weeks out in the field and only return to sell my organics or to heal battle fatigue.
I disagree. I deleted my ranger/rifleman a few days ago and made a pikeman/CH.
RANGER HAS NO CONTENT. They are, as most of you have admitted here, glorified scouts. Elite professions are not just supposed to be better than their lower profession, they are supposed to have new and unique content. Compare doctor to medic, enhancements are the new content. Compare Carbineer to level 4 Carbine marksman, they get TONS of skills. Now compare ranger to scout, a couplebroken traps, and more of the same for camping, one new skill that is very situational and... um... THAT'S IT. Think about what you do as ranger, all your bread and butter skills are the SAME as scout.
Warning shot is a marksman skill.
It SHOULD be a ranger skill. Or AE warning shot. Imagine how much more appealing the class would be then.
No, let's not give the bread and butter creature killer attack to rangers (which should be the best class against creatures), let's give it to EVERYONE! Stupid.
